Hungary ousts Orbán as Magyar's party wins supermajority in parliament

Hungarian voters on Sunday ousted long-serving Prime Minister Viktor Orbán after 16 years in power, rejecting the authoritarian policies and global far-right movement that he embodied in favour of a pro-European challenger in a bombshell election result with global repercussions.

It was a stunning blow for Orbán – a close ally of both US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin – who quickly conceded defeat after what he called a "painful" election result. US Vice President JD Vance had made a visit to Hungary just days earlier, meant to help push Orbán over the finish line.

A supermajority means that the new Government can dismantle the corrupt and authoritarian system put in place by Orban & Co. I guess the attraction of Orban's system, widespread self dealing by government officials and suppression of opposition media outweighed the fact that the corrupt economic system resulted in spectacularly poor economic performance compared to its neighbors.

I know you just post for the lolz, but Magyar used to be a Fidesz party member before resigning in protest over corruption. Actually it does. Or at least it can. Hungarians were fed up with massive corruption of Fideiz l. And a judiciary that had been totally corrupted. And the fact that the government had pretty much destroyed Independent Media critical of the government.
