Renewing 5-year driving license in BKK?

Featured Replies

1) Can I renew my five-year driving license two months before its expiration date?

2) Other than my passport and current driving license, are any other documents required?

Thanks.

Yes. Though most prefer the "day after" method to get almost 6 years.

Yes.
Passport with Non O visa/one year extension.

Certificate of residence from immigration (or work permit, or yellow book for some places).

Health certificate (from any roadside clinic is cheapest).

QR code from watching "online training".
Otherwise you would have to sit at the office and watch some videos.

Whether it's an easy walk-in in Bangkok? I don't know.

OP, correct advice provided in first post.

You will need a COR obtained from CW.

Unfortunately that now involves two trips to immigration as they no longer mail it out.

It can take two weeks but more likely less.

You can make an appointment.

When I renewed mine ( about a year ago) you had to visit transport office to make appointment.

I did that and made appointment for next day this was Chatachuck.

You will also need a medical.

Most transport offices have nearby "shops" that provide medical.

Here is thread. Note where the OP stated "residence letter" he means COR certificate of residence.

Oh hell. I need an operation on my right foot in two weeks and I'll be non-weight bearing for a couple of months. The license expires in a month. Damn. I guess I'll need to just let it expire and get a new one after my foot heals enough for me to walk and drive.

Thanks for the information. I'll think more ahead next time.

Another question: when I go to the Immigration online appt site, there's "A Letter of residence information in Thailand (Only Bangkok Province)". Is that the right one for a certificate of residence?

Where can I access this?

You have one year after expiry without extra effort/penalty.

Registration here:

"For Foreigner"

I don't remember all the details of registration.

It's three year ago...

The QR code is valid for 6 months as far as I remember.

It's then watching some youtube videos and answering a few very basic multiple choice questions.

Just clicked forward to registration.

No big deal. Personal details, email adr...

My immigration office is Nonthaburi and in 10 years I have registered my address on a TM30 at renewal (O-A) and never received a receipt. It appears that office does not require them and certainly I've not had any problems when I return from another country or hotel and never complete one. (NB .I understand it's my wife who should submit but doesn't and never has).

So the question is do I still require a TM30 for my driving licence renewal if Nonthaburi don't issue them? I was planning renewing at Chatuchak if that makes any difference or anyone have any experience.

Thanks in advance.

You can renew your TDL up to 12 months after expiry.

When I renewed my last 5yr licence I let it expire and waited till after my next birthday.

This gives you an extra year.

If get caught by the police on an expired licence, will get fined.

You can renew an expired license without penalty or additional requirements within one year, but obviously, you cannot legally drive in the meantime with an expired license. That's a very important distinction.

At Bangkok DLT area 4 office all I needed was to renew my five year was the old license and my pink ID and the printout from the video. I had my passport with me, but they did not look at it.

Be advised, when I watched the video online, the video had English subtitles, but the test was in Thail.

Great news, but since when? I took it about a year ago.
