You could end up spending a lot of money being with a Filipino or Thai gal, so realize this before you get into a long-term relationship. From what I hear from my friends who live there, the threshold

Rockyroad and Harrisfan probably!

A lot to like about the Philippines, however the food is awful, and I've been mugged twice in Metro Manila.

Not really, despite the RESIDENT in the name. During Covid, when only Residents could enter the Philippines, SRRV holders were not allowed in. Immig decreed the SRRV to NOT be a Visa that granted Residency. much to the shock of many SRRV holders, who were stuck overseas.

....this post this section , because this forum is not just about Thailand despite contrary to what many of you think , sorry to burst your bubble honeys it's a forum for ALL South East Asia

It's sad many if you live in the past

So the Philippines has passed new laws on April 6th

You must wear a T shirt in public , you will be fined

Especially those fat old farangs in Cebu

The young Israelis and young Filipinos is perfectly fine in my books

All I can say is my next trip will be to Cebu in the Philippines to look for a new place to retire

Especially after these new laws and oh No vlogging is allowed

Many UK expats have moved to Cebu because of their pension increases

You won't be seeing me again in Pattaya

And i thought my english writting was bad. If engliah is not your first, second or third language you should learn to use deepseek or chatgpt so people can understand what the heck you talking about.

You're talking about an emergency covid policy. Those on SRRV who were in country during that time were fine. It is a residency visa regardless. It is not citizenship though.

Which specific locations there.

Most Thai guys are jealous of farangs due to money.

Maybe. But there are a lot of successful Thai guys who would not have that same jealousy, yet they also have absolutely no interest in striking up a friendship with the foreigner.

I think there are likely many reasons but they're much deeper than just perceived financial status.

Obviously it depends on where in the Philippines

Not all the Philippines is the same

Cebu is modern although I could not stand the incessant beeping of horns !!!!!!

I left my hotel at 3am to walk to the traffic lights where I waited , a lone car with one old guy in it drives up and stops at the red light , where ....yes ..you guessed it....beeped his horn..at nothing ! He was the only one there at 3am

I approached him and his car window was open where I told him or should I say try to explain to him that there is NO NEED to beep his horn.

He drove off as I was still talking to him

I had the same trouble in Davao City

Think about it George, he sadly was mugged in the Philippines. With your attitude you could well just simply get beat up, not even mugged with your attitude. In reality you are lucky it was only a monkey that attacked you here.

I was slapped on the back of the head thankyou very much !

Something I had put away in my mind before you brought it up !!!

I was the innocent victim sitting there before I was slapped , even the detective agreed , who came out that night to my motel in Lopburi ,

The only reason they finally sent out a detective was because I complained to my local MP in Australia after my complaint of assault and battery was not taken seriously by the Lopburi tourist police !

Finally they conducted an investigation albeit 7 hours later

You should be ashamed of yourself lying about being a victim of violence.

Very disrespectful to actual victims.

Absolutely Georgeenta.

Very serious case.

This is exactly the kind of incident that gets overlooked far too often in SE Asia.

Unprovoked physical contact on a foreign national in Lopburi by a primate is not something that should just be quietly brushed off as “wildlife behaviour”.

A full review is clearly needed.

The monkey should have been immediately detained pending investigation, not left roaming the wild.

Standard procedure should have been:

Immediate arrest

Intensive questioning

Formal charging for assault and battery

Transfer to holding facility with restricted banana access

Then of course a proper sentencing phase.

Minimum ten years hard labor, ideally somewhere remote where reflective thinking is possible and no access to climbing or swinging from trees.

Followed by a mandatory behavioral rehabilitation program.

Anger management

Impulse control therapy

Group counselling with other repeat offenders

Financial restitution for emotional distress and disrupted travel itinerary

And finally an extended stay at an attitude adjustment facility before any consideration of reintegration into primate society.

The fact this was only escalated by the local authorities after intervention via your local MP in Australia is frankly alarming.

Lucky you were there to push for proper accountability.

Otherwise it is easy to imagine this kind of thing being swept under the carpet and repeated elsewhere.

Hopefully lessons have now been learned at all levels in the wild animal kingdom and it wont ever happen again.

Seems your another one who doesn't have any empathy for victims of crime

I was attacked twice in 2025 once by a monkey on March 2025 and in September 2025 by a ladyboy up at therapist road near the supalai condo in Pattaya

I had to see psychologist to get over my attacks so please don't treat this as something to make a joke of

Oh my, Georgeenta this is getting serious now.

Two separate incidents in one year is clearly a pattern that needs proper documentation.

Monkey in March

Ladyboy situation in September

Therapist Road for recovery and processing

Unlucky run.

Also very concerning that you had to seek psychological support afterwards. That suggests a full multidisciplinary response was required.

Rehabilitation

Emotional recovery

Incident review panel

Possibly a follow up risk assessment for Pattaya intersections involving wildlife and late night pedestrian encounters

Therapist Road is especially telling.

Most people end up there for exactly that reason, so it is understandable things got a bit blurred with the naming.

Forget Thepprasit Road, at least you were in the correct general recovery zone.

Hopefully the next stage is stability, reduced exposure to high risk interactions, and a formal incident log going forward.

Diary entries, statistics, consultations with concerned bystanders, and structured debriefs.

Two incidents in a year is not ideal, but with proper monitoring it should remain manageable.

Yeah, forget having a spliff, going for a rub and a tug and calling it a day after a couple of cock ups in Thailand. Nobody does that.

The only criminal involved was a dumb animal-YOU!

The crime and safety thing can be quite silly sometimes.

If you live in a place or even just visiting and ask locals, you know where it is safe to go and when, and when it is not.

Even "safe" cities have bad areas.

In my years in Chicago living in a slummy roach infested apartment because that's all I could afford, which some silly people think is crime hell or earth, I went out day and late night without a car, often alone, and never felt threatened, much less mugged. OK there was that one time I learned that a serial killer had frequented a bar that I often visited (true story), but heck, that can happen anywhere. Guess I wasn't his type. Ha ha.
