What's The Latest On Baht Bus Fares.

Featured Replies

Hi there, I've been living in Bangkok for the last few months so I missed the dreaded Songkran. I'm returning to my Pattaya condo today so what's the latest on the baht bus fares? Have the increases taken place yet? I'm happy with the increases but what I find very grey area is the fare structure. 15 baht for a short time and 20 baht for an extended time. How will the driver determine the length of the trip or will it be 20 baht every time you step on a baht bus? The Indians will be all over this as they think that 10 baht covers their entire group.

    You can still use your small change. 3 x Bht 5 or a 5 + 10 = 15, 4 xBht 5 or 2 x 10 =20. Try it.

It's far from a critical issue, I used to save up all my 5's and 10's and give the driver the correct fare. Are the fare increases in place now, if so I will start saving 20 baht notes instead.

Its good they increased it. Now all they have to do is increase teachers salaries who work at government schools.

Or maybe social security payments for young single mothers, where the father has abandoned her and her child

Simple, if you think it's a 20 baht ride, walk away without waiting for change. If you think it's a 15 baht ride, wait for your change.

Anywhere within the central area 15 baht. From South Jomtien to Dolphin Roundabout will definitely be 20 baht. From Central area to Naklua...I would say still 15 baht.

Well you have certainly got some anxious moments awaiting on your return to Pattaya. I hope it all goes smoothly you trailblazer you!! 😂

Assume yes. Take a deep breath, have a libation of your choice, keep calm and carry on.

I haven't been to Pattaya in a while but in BKK most Songtaews have a sign displaying the fare.

Good idea mate, save and pay in 20's regardless of increase or not

I usually just watch what the Thai people pay before I pay. Or, like others have said, hand them a 20 baht note and see if you get change.

dont be cheap, pay an even 100 baht note at every opportunity, makes the rest of us looks good

Amazing how some westerners are so self conscious of the image they give and will go the extra mile and even accept to be openly cheated...just not to seem a "cheap charlie". But keep in minde that no asian will respect a westerner who allows himself or herself to be cheated. Yes, if will be all smiles and the waï..but deep inside they will chuckle and think "man, oh man, what a nut". Sorry, no offense to anybody please.

There it is, those achievements in "maths" you are so proud of.

Congratulations.

Unlike most threads on this site, a straightforward question that a knowledgeable person could answer.

But what happens?

"Clever" and "humorous" responses abound.

Really hilarious comments, knee slappers I think they could be called.

Shame there is no sarcasm emoji for you to use.

Bet your popular with the ladies Pete !

Use your common sense.

It's a variable fare and there will be ambiguity about 15 or 20.

Some drivers may enforce their own made up rules (for example Jomtien to Pattaya Tai always 20) but I think in general just try to be fair.

If you think it's probably not an extended ride and you have give 15 in coins and see if the driver barks.

If it's really a long ride, just give 20 and walk away.

If you think you're owed 5 baht change and you give 20, use body language or ask for it, or the driver might just speed off with the 20, those are the breaks.

When the negatives out weigh the positives

Keep doing that and that will be the fare in a few months.

I see you have some difficulty understanding humour....☹️

It's 15 baht for up to 10km and 20 baht above that.

How you or the driver keeps a track of it waits to be seen.

Where did you get that from?

Depends on the driver.

Plenty on Soi Buakhao still happy with 10 baht.

Are they really happy to be stiffed?

Probably more like they don't have the energy or temperament to fight with the occasional CHEAP CHARLY who is cheating them.

Not paying the new fare is indeed that -- CHEATING.
