Cambodian police have arrested three men in separate operations targeting the production and distribution of child pornography, with authorities stressing their determination to protect children from abuse.

In Kampong Speu, a 20‑year‑old man was detained last week and charged with creating and sharing child sexual abuse material. The Child Protection Unit (CPU), which works alongside the National Police, confirmed that seven victims aged between eight and twelve have been identified so far.

The arrest followed a joint operation involving the National Police, Kampong Speu Police Chief Khim Sokkhai, Prosecutor Sin Virak, the Anti‑Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Office, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the CPU. “This operation sends a clear message that the production and distribution of child sex abuse material will not be tolerated in Cambodia,” said CPU Director James McCabe.

In a separate case in Prey Veng province, two men aged 27 and 31 were arrested earlier this month after a special investigation led by Police Chief Chhoeun Bunchhorn, again in collaboration with CPU and HSI. Both suspects have been charged with child pornography and indecent acts against a minor, and remain in detention. Six victims have been rescued, with offences traced back to 2020.

McCabe described the arrests as part of a wider effort to confront institutional abuse, which he called a global issue requiring constant vigilance. “This case reflects Cambodia’s firm commitment to protecting children through the detection, apprehension and prevention of crimes against them,” he said.

The operations highlight growing cooperation between Cambodian authorities and international partners in tackling online child exploitation. Officials say the arrests demonstrate a strong resolve to prosecute offenders and safeguard vulnerable children across the country.
