This story is widely reported but on here is the only place I can see where it is stated their licence is "rejected". It's up for renewal in May and there are clearly issues with their operation but

I have to admit that ending Bolt smells kind of fishy, doesn't it? Like when political parties are abolished here. Certain "powers that be" seem to be very allergic to STRONG COMPETITION.

Bolt has work just fine for me in Bangkok.

Who has the most money? Bolt or a collection of dodgy win riders?

Which is owned by the local police station/army post who collect a daily 'vest fee' of maybe 2,000 Baht a day up to 10,000 Baht or more a day from the big Bangkok win's?

What we know is Thai can be bought, easily, so an agreement will be made and Bolt continues

Bolt licence ends 30-May.

There is time for them to sort it.

Indrive is a thing.

They'll beat Grab on price for sure.

I bet they'll be getting flooding with new app installs soon!

I googled indrive... Russian origins been operating in Thailand for the past 4yrs... Wonder why they have not really become a thing like grab and bolt ?

Horrible news about Bolt.

They were much better (cheaper) than Grab.

So is Grab now basically a monopoly or is InDrive a funtioning alternative?

Here in Chiang Mai Bolt drivers are excellent. I did have one incident with a female driver who was talking all the time on her 3 phones. I asked her to stop and she refused 'it's just my mum'. I reported her and the Bolt manager advised she had been sacked instantly.

I should mention I've had the same experience before several times with grab. .

Well now is their big chance to Grab a big slice out of Grab!

I haven't tried them yet but my understanding is that the concept is that you offer what you're willing to pay for the ride, and hope a driver says yes.

I've considered that too much work as Bolt fares were good enough without playing games.

But here is the obvious play.

Check the fare on route and bid based on that as a reference.

Why get into any for form of argument or negotiating during the ride which is probably, in most cases fairly short.

If the passenger is determined to get a very low price what can the driver do except stop and tell the passenger to get out, then the passengers refuses to pay. What a mess.

Bolt fares are very reasonable an agreed before the trip starts, Sounds real to me.

It seems you misunderstood.

The Indrive fare is as I understand it is fully finalized on the APP beforehand.

So you indicate your route on the app and then say what you want to pay.

If accepted by a driver on the app, that is the final fare.

If not, you can up your offer until you get a driver.

After an interesting chat with an Uber driver in the UK, it seems Indrive have switched the bidding from the driver onto the customer. He said that the driver's Uber interface shows them where customers are hailing and the fare suggested by Uber's algorithms. It's up to the driver to accept or decline the hire primarily based on his expected cut of the fare. Other aspects such as remoteness of destination and other logistics come into play, but it's the $$ earned that's the primary concern.

I agree that if it is based on the ride hailer winning the bid, Indrive seems to add a step to the process which to me is counter intuitive. However, with the propensity for Thais to bargain for just about anything, maybe it will work?

As I said, I haven't actually tried Indrive yet so I don't really know about the specific current mechanics of how it works. My comments were only based on what I've heard but I am certain any "bidding" about price is finalized on the app and is not done in the car. I looked this up and Indrive was already listed as number 3 in Thailand after Grab and Bolt. As it has Russian origin, perhaps it's already bigger with Russians here?

We all know how some Russians like to bargain. Take the family for a meal in a restaurant, eat everything, then refuse to pay because it didn't taste good.

Nobody here used Shopeekar?

"Probably screwed up her family"

What does that mean? I'm guessing you mean that losing her job means her family suffers. And that may well be true, on the other hand I contacted a car-ride company expecting to pay a fee for a specific trip including some professioalism including a good attitude and good driving behaviors re safety.

i asked the lady two times to stop using the 3 phones at the same time, first time she just waved her hand but did nothing, second time she ignored me by saying 'mai pben rai' (never mind), same as when I mentioned 'should have turned left' as directed / advised by the voice on the map she was following. meanwhile lots of laughing and giggling audible from 2 of her phones.

Bottom line: I believe I had every right to report her.

Should of paid her the exact fare no tip, rather than cause her to lose her job and the suffering of the extended family

Hope so.

I started using Bolt couple years ago, and used them exclusively as the Soi Kanchanaran in JomTien doesn’t have baht busses to the beach road, or Sukumvit as my condo is center, its either walk the 900 meters to Sukumvit or walk 800 meters to the Beach, to catch a baht bus. I get a family visiting for two months every summer, when schools out, family of six and a half - I used Bolt and the extra expense was worth it. When I am by myself, I usually walk the 800 + meters or so and catch a baht bus - FYI I have been tipping the Baht Bus drivers for years now, gas has always been an expensive issue so whats 20 baht vs 10 baht?? They could raise the price to 20-30 baht and I’d still use them………Paying the driver cash has always been an option, I catch a Bolt to Airport and pay by debit card, tip there as well - easy peasy. Save Bolt, give them a chance to require driver screening. If everyone would take a minute to evaluate "How was your ride” and tell the truth, they would screen out bad actors - car has bad smell, car was loud and and driver drove too fast - I had one driver talking to himself, yelling at other cars, motorcycles - rated him as such, I was told by Bolt he no longer works for them.
