surely a dog specifically trained to attack other dogs is of little danger to anything other than, well , other dogs?

A dog specifically bred for aggression and strength is a danger to everyone.

Watching any animals fighting to the death is a despicable activity, including bull fighting where the bulls are killed many times. Dogs are raised to do the same and that makes them dangerous to humans. Uncivilized and cruel, and those doing it are disturbed creatures themselves.

But humans eat them.

A dog trained towards aggression will use it against any threat, including people they see as one.

There are humane ways to kill animals used for meat. Sticking a bull many times then killing it isn't humane.

not necessarily , what about police dogs, for example They are hardly a danger to everybody The training is more important than the breeding

They are trained to do a job, not for fighting. And if they are aggressive they would be dropped from the scheme. Totally different to fighting dogs.

There's a popular reel on Instagram of a US police dog chasing a criminal in the winter, and the dogs spots a snow drift and jumps in the drift for a quick play, then carries on with his duties and catches the criminal. The dog was having fun and doing a task, not fighting.

Are you suggesting that police dogs are incapable of displaying aggression? that's clearly ridiculous , they are big strong intimidating dogs trained to be aggressive when required, but , they are no more inherently dangerous than any other dog, in fact due to their training they are generally less dangerous,

I don't doubt that there are some unscrupulous trainers involved in the sport of dog fighting but its perfectly possible to train a dog to be aggressive only to other dogs it does not have to be a forgone conclusion that it will also be aggressive to humans

Dogs look at us as another species, but look at us a part of a pack, and it has all to do with how they see individuals. Police dogs are trained to attack and subdue, but not to cause much damage. Just to incapacitate. There are taught to keep the criminal at bay not allowing them to escape. To hold and let go on command. Dogs trained to fight are trained to kill, or until the other isn't capable of fighting back any longer, which turns out fatal at times. These types of dogs can kill a human very fast, as a dog can sustain severe bites from another and still live, but a human bitten in the neck can expire fast.

But dogs trained to fight other dogs are not trained by teaching them to attack humans or human looking dummys, Anyway I would guess that most people are killed by dogs who have had no training at all,

I don't like dogs and I would not have one in or near the house and fortunately my mrs feels the same way I feel the same way about chickens, which brings us nicely back onto topic
