Flotilla Activists Allege Beatings And Taser Abuse By IDF

Activists detained after attempting to break Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza have accused Israeli forces of brutal mistreatment, claiming they were beaten, tasered, dragged by their hair and threatened with dogs after their flotilla was intercepted at sea.

The Global Sumud Flotilla — a convoy of 50 boats carrying activists, journalists and politicians — was stopped by Israeli forces in international waters roughly 250 miles from the Israeli coast before detainees were transported to Ashdod port in southern Israel.

Several of those deported this week have now described violent treatment at the hands of Israeli soldiers and prison officers, allegations Israel strongly denies.

Activists Describe ‘Violent’ Detention

Turkish flotilla organiser Zeynel Abidin Ozkan claimed detainees were held inside shipping containers after arriving in Israel.

“We faced periods where we couldn’t stand, our heads were bowed to the ground, we were dragged and pulled by our hair,” he said.

Ozkan alleged activists refusing to sign Israeli documents were shackled with iron restraints, dragged across the ground and surrounded by dogs.

He also claimed detainees were denied access to lawyers, embassy officials and relatives.

‘They Started Punching My Face’

American activist Christopher Boren said he was attacked immediately upon arrival at Ashdod.

“I was immediately grabbed by five IDF or police officers,” he said.

“One of them had gloves on with hardened plastic and he started punching my face.”

Boren displayed a swollen black eye while recounting the alleged assault.

Journalist Claims Taser Used

Italian journalist Alessandro Mantovani described detainees being blindfolded, zip-tied and forced into painful stress positions during the transfer.

He claimed Israeli personnel screamed at detainees while twisting their arms behind their backs and pressing them face-first onto wet floors.

Mantovani alleged he was later punched repeatedly, kicked and hit with a taser in the ribs.

“They say ‘Welcome to Israel,’ then a punch to the face,” he said.

He also accused authorities of confiscating belongings and conducting humiliating strip searches.

Ben-Gvir Sparks Fresh Outrage

Greek activist Yiannis Atmatzidis claimed every detainee was forced through a “container gauntlet” where groups of officers allegedly beat activists as they passed through.

Atmatzidis also described an encounter with Israel’s hardline National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who reportedly questioned him while armed guards pointed weapons and laser sights at him.

“When we said our hands were going numb, they showed absolutely no mercy,” Atmatzidis said.

Ben-Gvir has already triggered international backlash after footage emerged appearing to show him mocking detained activists.

Israel Rejects Claims

Israel has flatly denied all allegations of abuse.

A spokesperson for the Israeli Prison Service said the accusations were “false and entirely without factual basis.”

The flotilla operation comes amid soaring international tensions over Gaza, with activists insisting they were attempting to deliver humanitarian aid and challenge Israel’s blockade of the territory.

Israel maintains the naval blockade is necessary for national security and to prevent weapons reaching Hamas.

The sneaky floatilla members punched each other in the face and shot each other with rubber bullets, and used makeup to simulate bruises and cuts, and then claimed the "most moral army in the world, the IDF, did it. Well any soldier who does not question orders to kill women and children indiscriminately is morally bent from my perspective. I am anything but a Jew hater, as there are countless Jews that I'm close to, including family members, and I have nothing against the faith. I was at a wine dinner last night where seven out of 10 people at the dinner were Jewish and they're all friends of mine.

However some overly simplistic minds will always tie opposition to extremist Israeli policies into some form of anti-Semitism, which is ridiculous to the extreme. It is barely even a meme at this point, and the polar opposite of an intellectual argument.

Anybody who isn't biased already can see these people were NOT abused by Israeli forces - they were literally completely healthy and fine protesting in Spain just hours later. Spanish police did give them fresh new well deserved wounds, though!

When you enter the IDF one of the first lessons you get is that you MUST refuse an order if it appears to be illegal or against human rights. There is not a single Israeli soldier who would actually obey a command to deliberately mass-murder civilians. Yes- there are situations where it is unavoidable because Hamas love using human shields - but to say the IDF deliberately kills civilians means you know nothing about the IDF and just spewing fictional drivel without any basis in reality.

I'm certainly not going so far as to say that the IDF deliberately murder civilians, but what I would say is that they don't go far enough out of their way to avoid murdering civilians. I think in general they hold Palestinian lives in very low regard.
