12 years and he is still waiting for his court case to come up , 62yo ,served already 12 years and says he is not guilty , his ex wife and her family set him up so she could get the house , he was in tears and watching him has distressed me too and I'm crying as I write this !!!!!

Most people on TV already know of this case.

Most people on TV believe that you are prevaricating when you state that you are crying in solidarity with the prisoner of the Philippines.

I have no doubt that you are telling the truth when you say you were crying.

However, the reason for your tears is an avoidance of the truth, on your part.

As this is not just a Thai forum but a South East Asia forum , my heart goes to all those foreign prisoners from serving time in Asia jails.

I got home this morning after a night mopping floors and stairwells to relax by putting YouTube on ....only to see a video of a elderly Australian man already served 12 years in a Cebu jail ,

Cebu is in Philippines if anyone doesnt know

He is in the Cebu City corrections centre since 2014

I had no idea this poor man was locked in such dirty squalid conditions,

How many of these foreign prisoners must suffer like this before we do something

I will probably go to the Philippines and take food to all the foreign prisoners from Australia and UK and maybe American ones although I don't get on with American people

I don't. Even we don't know the circumstances there is a criminal act the initial step to be held in prison. Follow the rules and laws and you are as free as a bird.

Lesson learned? Don't commit crimes in Southeast Asia. If you can't do the time, don't commit the crime.

Around 1998, I, just suggested of the lonely planet guide book, visited a Thai prison and brought a total stranger, a carton of cigarettes, and a big jar of cheap vitamins

They would rotate someone to go collect the stuff that stupid hippies like me had brought, and I was unluckily to get a Brit, who do tend towards passive aggression, on average, due to their class system BS.

It’s a powerlessness thing. I feel bad for them. But it’s always very draining to be around.

He asked me impatiently, is this all you brought? We are not a human zoo, you know.

I was extremely annoyed, but in retrospect, he was 100% right.

It was morbid curiosity that brought me north of Bangkok, not any sense that I was bringing vitamins to some oppressed Nelson Mandela type figure.

He was just a garden variety very unlucky, drug mule, and very understandably didn’t want to get into the details.

Anyway, they changed the rule and you have to go to an embassy and get a name of someone, rather than just showing up to toss them some pad Thai or whatever.

I would have done the 6 months,

Even if your girl friends father paid the fine?

We all have options in life some people choose the wrong ones

And land up in Foreign prisons

As the old saying goes you do the crime you do the time while I might have some sympathy for those who are probably innocent the majority are guilty

And I won't be shedding any tears

Cant do the time, don't do the crime.

I would have done the 6 months,

Depends on the girlfriend...

I visited Canadian prisoners in Bang Kwang for more than a decade. I bought TVs, pirate DVDs and players so everyone could share.

Of course, all of them were dope prisoners. One guy was cooking MDMA. Got 35 years, waiting for a transfer to Canada. What he felt worst about was the girlfriend--she got 20 years and had nothing to do with it.

I bought and had sent in boxes of canned tuna (little protein in jail diets), cartons of cigs and little treats to be traded for favours.

What you've done does not define who you are, even in the most heinous crimes. The punishment is your separation from family and community, nothing more.

Everybody deserves a friend. Show some compassion. Call up your embassy and ask. It takes a whole day but earns you karma points.

In most cases if you commit the crime you do the time but of course in Asian countries there's several ways to by pass the system. Of course the number 1 requirement to do this is always money.

that doesn't always work , ask Thaksin

My dick head nephew was hanging around with a group of Thai wannabees in Pattaya. They committed a crime but it has since been proven that he wasn't with them when the crime was committed. He got arrested because although he wasn't there he was accused of knowing the names of the perpetrators. So he went to court and got 6 months in jail or a 300,000 baht fine.

Luckily for him his girl friends father pad the fine.

I would made sure that the little scrote served at least a couple of weeks before buying him out,, if possible, to teach him a valuable lesson if that was not an option then I'd insist on letting him serve the full 6 month stretch, that might just help him think twice in future

Absolutely wrong in the case of Thailand and the Philippines, so you don't know what you are talking about?

Most admit wrongdoing to receive a shorter sentence because they can't afford lawyer fees. I know loads of innocent people in Thai jails.

So check your facts before your keyboard fingers, and keep your crocodile tears.

Not that I have any sympathy to theses sorts or people, but he is 'charged' not tried and found guilty,

the law is a law, and it must be applied to one and all fairly and equally, it could have been you or me in there,

once you have been tried and found guilty than the law must be applied, but to keep a person for so long pending his court case, this is not right.

You know loads of innocent people in Thai jails? How come ? Looks like there's a story there ...

Not all people in jail are bad people especially where there's drugs involved. Take my wifes nephew, he was a good kid even though he had a poor up bringing. Just after his 18th birthday he found himself a girl friend and in a matter of months she was in the family way. He stuck by her but he had no income so he resorted to selling drugs. In a strange twist his " supplier " arrested him and he was told that when he goes to court keep his mouth shut or suffer the consequences. So he did what he was told and got 6 months in the slammer. Some people take uneccesary risks to get money to support their families. He's now 35 yo, squeaky clean, he's with the same girl friend and he has 2 teenage kids. He works at 2 jobs so that his kids can have a better education than he had. How many young men in Thai jails are locked up for the same circumstances as my wifes nephew.

they are nothing like a holiday camp, unless one has become institutionalised , The "leave early" thing is a disgrace The full sentence should be the minimum served with good behaviour, any bad behaviour should see the sentence increased
