90 Day report and 100 Baht?

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

I went to renew my 90 day report this morning at the Buriram main office. Being as a friend of mine was also due, I offered to do his at the same time. Upon arrival I submitted both passports. The young assistant took them and returned them to the senior staff woman who asked me for 100 Baht for completing my friend's TM47. I said that it was a free service. She replied that if someone gets someone else to do their reporting then there is a 100 Baht charge. Have been doing 90 reports for many a year and I've never been caught on this scam. So I refused to pay. Okay you may say 'it's only 100 Baht' but for me it's the principal. 20+years of being honest.

Anyways the senior staff woman then started to threaten me by refusing to do my friends report even though she'd entered the report into my friends passport. So I sat down and told her to go ahead and delete the entry. Which would mean a 160km road trip for my friend but not my problem. The staff woman then backtract on the 100 Baht and told me to go.

Has anyone else been caught out with this scam? Or is it not a scam?

I always try to stay on friendly terms with any immigration officers I have to deal with. I look at it as long term insurance . Never know when I might need them for something.

By "completing TM47" do you mean filling in the form or was the form filled in by you. In any event most folk would pay the 100b

I suppose you also don't expect to pay 500 Baht for a COR.

Which Buriram office?

You go to the office and hand over your passport . It's handed back with the TM47 completed. Always the same process. I thought you was supposed to be knowledgable regarding immigration processes?

Why don't you and your friend do it online ,have been doing it that way,

for few years now, no problem , anything not have to go to immigration,

if you did it online ,it would save your friend with long travel time, I am 80

if I can figure out how to do it anyone can. Immigration also send me email

before it's due, then another to say they have received my application ,and

it's usually granted a few days later, just look on website,

I too have been doing TM47's online but it's hit and miss wether they accept the application here. If I can incorparate a shopping trip into my visit to Buriram then that'll do. And if I can do others TM 47's then all's good. But to get stopped after twenty odd years, without warning, then that pees me off.

Typical of your usual rude replies.

It depends on the Immigration office you are doing the 90 day report at. As an example at Chiang Mai hand over passport and TM47. In Jomtien sometimes they want paper copies of passport bio, visa and entry stamp along with paper TM30 as well as TM47

If they ask for b100, ask them to provide a receipt and you'll pay it.

If it's legit they'll provide a receipt.

If no receipt you can guarantee it's not legit.

What on gawd’s green earth is new here? Anyone who lives in this country knows that it’s counter productive to fuss it doing business with government workers. It’s a national pesky annoyance for most folks in the country being faced with having to go deal with government office workers, for both Thai and foreign nationals.

'Anyone who lives in this country' is rather a broad stroke of the brush.

Thais probably complain way more about dealing with government office workers more than foreign nationals.

Still baffled?

Can you submit a 90 day report on behalf of another applicant, absolutely yes!

Should it be free, as if it was your own application, absolutely yes.

  1. The person makes the notification in person, or authorises another person to make the notification.

The question is apart from, and assuming you submitted the required documentation, did you submit a letter of authorisation from your friend to submit on his behalf?

Without such letter of authorisation and the IO noticing the distance you'd travelled (160Km round trip), the IO could have simply refused to accept or approve the report insisting your friend do it in person. I tend to think in this case the IO was trying to be reasonable and do you a favour. 100BHT was a reasonable request under the circumstances.

Cutting me some slack

They are probably applying the same fee they apply to agents doing the same thing. They can't believe you're not being rewarded for your efforts and quite reasonably want a piece of the action.

You've been here for over 20 years and still have principles? You got to get rid of them

100 baht is a small amount, you could end up with a big headache when IO arrives on your doorstep.

My wealth of no idea answer would be $3? I pay it & leave

So you've been to all 77 provinces in Thailand and submitted a TM47 in them all? I can assure you this is absolutely NOT how it is done in Bangkok. You need more than just handing over your passport.

In fairness OP is reporting his experience in Buriram, which is not Bangkok.
Many IO's request nothing more than your passport for an in person 90 day report, as the remaining usually requested documents are already on file.

Most of the agents in Pattaya charge 200 baht.
