I think it's fair to say that Trump's control over the Republican Party is pretty strong as shown in the primaries. Redistricting which of course is racist because the new districts aren't based on race as it is with Democrat gerrymandering, means the mid-term results is now not as set in stone as some on here think. Also MAGA support for Trump is still strong. If the Strait reopens fuel prices will come down pretty quick. November will be interesting.

A legal and political firestorm is engulfing Donald Trump after a federal judge halted plans for a controversial $1.8 billion compensation fund that critics say could become a taxpayer-funded reward system for the president’s allies.

The scheme, already facing multiple lawsuits, has triggered rare resistance not only from Democrats but from Republicans and former judges, raising questions about whether Trump has finally pushed political goodwill beyond breaking point.

Judge Hits the Brakes

A federal court has temporarily blocked the government from launching the fund or processing payments until a hearing next month. The ruling came after a lawsuit from individuals and organisations who fear they will be excluded from any compensation process.

The challenge is unusual. The plaintiffs cannot yet prove exclusion, only that they expect it. Yet the court appeared willing to entertain that concern, reflecting deep scepticism about how the fund might operate.

Fears of a Presidential Slush Fund

Critics argue the central problem is control. The fund would reportedly sit under Trump’s authority, giving him enormous influence over who receives compensation and who does not.

Opponents believe the beneficiaries could disproportionately include political supporters, while figures who have clashed with Trump or his administration would have little chance of seeing a payout. That perception alone is driving mounting outrage.

Republican Support Starts to Fray

What makes this battle different is the breadth of opposition. Several Republican lawmakers have publicly expressed concerns about the proposal, adding pressure to an already difficult political environment.

The controversy comes as lawmakers wrestle with wider legislative battles. Reports of growing voter anger have left some Republicans increasingly wary of tying themselves too closely to the project.

Former Judges Enter the Fight

In an extraordinary intervention, 35 former federal judges have reportedly urged a court to revisit the settlement that paved the way for the fund.

Such interventions are rare and underline the seriousness with which legal figures are viewing the dispute. Critics argue the arrangement raises profound questions about accountability, public money and executive power.
