It certainly is different living in Thailand than in New Jersey and visiting New York at the weekend sometimes when I lived there for a year in 1995, for one I do not have to look over my shoulder all the time in Thailand wondering if I am going to get mugged as I feet in New Jersey and New York.

In New York I once parked my car in a car park and walked for half an hour to the central shopping area, on the way back I was asked by so many guys who had appeared on the streets if I wanted to buy drugs.

I was passing two police officers and asked them for directions and they asked what am I doing in this area at this time of day, I was surprised as it was only 18:30

I worked in Amsterdam quite a few years ago and worked with about six American who were sent there for six months to work, they could not believed how we could just stroll around the city during the evenings and up to 1am in complete safety.

I do forget the day of the week sometimes here in Phuket but not the dates as I need to use the date many times during the day when writing software from my home office.

I am never asked what I ate today as my Thai partner does the cooking at home, and also she can cook international dishes as well as Thai.

I don't know much about NYC in 1995....

But, back around 1975, I once drove my car around the Bronx for a few hours between the hours of 1am and 4am.

Plenty of brothers hanging out on street corners amidst the devastation down there, at the time.

I parked my car, and walked back to a few pimps standing on the corner, and asked them where I could find a service station to check my oil.

They were COMPLETELY Cool.....

They had never seen a whitey, at about 3am, get out of his car, and just walk on up, and ask them such an idiotic question.

I just wanted to check them out.

Also, I just wanted to see if it were true, or not, according to Taxi Driver, that the Bronx was a place where most drivers never ventured after dark.

True, at the time, there were places that looked like a War Zone.

But, the pimps down there, at 3am.....were very Cool......

And, POLITE, too....!!!!

Maybe they just thought I was crazy.....because....YOU KNOW.......

When being attacked by INDIANS in the Wild West of America, it is always best to feign being CRAZY.......

Those guys were Cool....and I guessed that if you were polite, and did not threaten them...then...they were just like anybody else.

Also, as you know, American Pimps are very intelligent...so.....

I was able to relate to them immediately.

Dear Folks,

Life here in Thailand is very strange, compared to life in the Tri-State area….(NYC-NJ-Philly)...

When I lived in the USA, I was easily able to recall the date, the day, the year, and who was President of the USA….

But, after setting up my digs in Thailand, dates, times, even years, and especially “who might be the USA Prez”....seems to matter very little to me.

I am not saying that this effect is necessarily bad for most of us.

I am only saying that, once in a while, people will ask me:  Where are you? What day is it today? Have you eaten?

The worst problem for me is when they continually ask me:  Have you Eaten? My response is….to ask….:  Eaten WHAT, exactly?

In Thailand, everybody thinks it is just …..  SO POLITE to ask others what they have eaten.

In Thai, this translates into: กินข้าวหรือยัง

Every time someone asks me this question I invariably reply:

NO.

I have NOT eaten today, thus far.

In fact, I am so hungry that I could….EAT A HORSE….

Do you ever do this, too?

Just asking.

And, how do you keep the days straight, after moving to Thailand?

Best regards,

Gamma

Note:  Have a Good One….Folks…..!!!!!

I hate to say this gamma but I think you should go back to the USA and get an appointment to see Sleepy Joe Biden's Dr. because it sounds like you might have his disease

There is no doctor that can cure hubris among the overly prideful.

These people are bound to err repeatedly, and never see reality clearly.

Proud fools, is all they are.

Why would I wish to return and live among them?

They are destroying everything American in trying to remake America.

It is the super-rich fools that are the worst.

They are racing toward a toxic future of their own creation.

I will remain here, and watch the crash.

Only then, can America be reborn.

I never had any interest in mixing with pimps, like 99% of most people I can guess.

I got lost on the way driving to JFK and so stopped the car in a really run down area, I think it was the Bronx and I asked a black guy for directions he told me and then demand five dollars, I was so shocked I just gave it to him.

I can't remember which way around it was, West Orange and East Orange, I lived in one of them.

I turned off the highway one exit too early and ended up in the Orange which was a black area.

I as I drove down the street black guys wearing identical scarves around their head, one trouser leg drawn up gave me dirty looks, their face full of hatred.

As I stopped at a traffic light at a four way junction a gang of black blokes were pointing at me so I did a U Turn at the traffic lights and buggerd off.

As I drove past takeaways restaurants I could see the counter had a full size grill covering the counter and the food was served though a small hatch to prevent robberies, what a horrible area I thought.

A few days later I was talking to a copper in a bar and told him, he told me never to go there again.

I was offered a two year contract extension by AT&T and I said thanks but no thanks and I went off to work in Amsterdam, back to normality.

I must say my four months stint in Arlington Texas was good, my English accent really works well with the American local women, I had a great time , it was a shaggers paradise for me.
