Capitalists’ wet dream

Astro Philesz

We live on a planet where trees warn each other of danger through underground networks. Where octopuses dream. Where elephants return to the bones of their dead and stand over them in silence. Where bees communicate through dance. Where crows remember human faces and teach their young who to trust and who to fear.

And we are destroying it for quarterly earnings reports.

Where whales sing in frequencies that travel thousands of miles across ocean basins, conversations spanning entire hemispheres that we are only beginning to decode. Where dolphins call each other by individual names. Where trees share nutrients with their sick and dying neighbors through fungal networks so sophisticated scientists call it the wood wide web. Where monarch butterflies navigate to a forest in Mexico they have never visited using a compass built from sunlight and Earth's magnetic field.

Where dogs evolved the specific facial muscles to make expressions that manipulate human emotions. Where plants release chemicals into the air when being eaten, warning neighboring plants to increase their defenses. Where sea otters hold hands while sleeping so they do not drift apart.

This planet is not a rock with resources on it. It is the most complex, interconnected, improbable, beautiful system we have ever encountered anywhere in the universe. Four and a half billion years of evolution producing a web of life so intricate that every species we lose takes knowledge with it that no amount of money can reconstruct.

And after all of that. After the underground conversations between trees and the whale songs and the elephant grief and the butterfly navigation and the forests that grow flowers first after fire.

We look at it and see money. To destroy your home planet's ecosystem for imaginary wealth.

I'm not so cynical to believe that most multi-billionaires continue to work ONLY for $$$.

Some people amass so much wealth that it would take 1000 lifetimes to spend it all.

I believe some of these people continue working for a sense of purpose.

The intellectually vacuous screech from those with nothing looking to steal from those with something.

That's why I think capitalist money should be capped. Nobody deserves a billion dollars. Let's be generous and cap them at $500 million.

In fact, their money will just keep making money exponentially. And we skim it off for good works.

Govt takes all the rest. And they'll still keep on wortking, benefiting society or destroying the planet.

B.S. We don't NEED any of that. We lived in caves for 20,000 years, fer Chrissake. Aww, ya might get wet, catch a cold, sweat a little, shiver over your little fire. Walk where you want to go. Build a boat, a raft.

Insects are fact more industrious than we are. Look at bees. They do nothing but benefit everything else in the web of nature. Without even knowing it. When would humans be so altruistic?

I vacillate over ants. I look at those giant condos and they remind me of nothing more than huge anthills. Up to work, trudge trudge, eat, <deleted>, same every day.

However, real ants till the soil so plants can grow, eat detritus. The ants in condos are not nearly so useful to the rest of us.

What do you expect of a system built on false scarcity.

Why does no one deserve a billion dollars? Why is it considered unacceptable for someone to have built a company worth over one billion dollars?

Fantastic posts and chock full of truth about the miracle of nature. And many amongst us not only take it for granted but abuse it consistently for the sake of a buck.

I'm not naming any names but you all know who they are.

There's nothing unacceptable about being rich but as Billy Eilish so wisely said recently being a billionaire is a fault it's not a quality. It means you're not giving much away and you're hoarding for yourself.

With wealth comes a huge responsibility to society and the ability to aid people and humanity in countless ways. Not doing so once you have great wealth is beyond an abomination. I could name names but all of you know who the biggest cheapskates are amongst the billionaire class. Hint. Our dear leader, for one.

But there's way too many people on the planet now. So those houses are in the middle of nowhere. Most people need to live in apartment complexes.

The thing that makes humans different is the capacity to increase their intelligence to help others, and themselves. The problem with free will is that some take that into greed, and when it gets to the millionaire status, they want the billionaire position. When it's there, it has power, which is why many keep working. Trump was a billionaire already, so he wanted to be god, and people helped him get there.

It's true about the world and it's God given beauty and structures. Insects do amazing things, one of which is keeping us alive by pollination. Humans can and do help others all the time. The problem lies where some humans only agenda is to become richer by destroying our planet an acre at a time.

People are the highest form of life on the planet, and if more helped and less destroyed, mainly from narcissism and a sociopathic mind, we would all be better off. It all starts in the home. Hatred, fear, misogyny, abuse, neglect, love, care, empathy, control, kindness, sympathy, and indifference.

Some of the most disturbed minds on earth are leaders, and the same that follow them, and some of these are elected into power, while others force their way in by genocide.

People have come a long way with inventions to make our lives easier, and there is nothing wrong with advancement, as long as it isn't taking advantage of others.

This is AI and explains some of it. Nothing wrong with making money, but has it been made destroying or building for humans and the earth? Environmental Criticisms and Concerns

  • Carbon Footprint: Studies frequently highlight that the wealthiest individuals have disproportionately large carbon footprints due to private aviation, mega-yachts, and multiple large estates.

  • Resource Extraction: High-net-worth investors and corporate executives often fund or direct industries centered on fossil fuels, deforestation, industrial agriculture, and mining, which can cause severe habitat destruction.

  • Influence on Policy: Critics argue that substantial financial resources are sometimes used to lobby against environmental regulations or to fund campaigns that delay climate action.

Alternative Perspectives and Responses

  • Green Philanthropy: A notable segment of the millionaire and billionaire population directs significant wealth toward environmental conservation, renewable energy research, and climate change mitigation.

  • Sustainable Investing: There is a growing trend among wealthy investors toward Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria, directing capital away from damaging practices and into sustainable technologies.

  • Systemic Factors: Many economists and sociologists argue that environmental degradation is a systemic issue driven by global consumer demand, legal frameworks, and economic structures, rather than the actions of specific individuals alone.

Why should wealth come with additional responsibilities? You make it sound mandatory. Whether rich or poor, what people do with their own money is their own business.

Well we see that very differently and I'm not necessarily saying I'm right and you're wrong but I do believe that great wealth carries a huge level of responsibility towards society. One can be super self involved and completely forget about humanity, such as someone like our dear leader, but that doesn't excuse the self-absorption and selfishness for a nanosecond. It is a true indication of a dark heart and contempt for those that are considerably less fortunate. But we've already seen that with the heartless cuts to the usaid program.

Beautifully written!

We have a similar echo system inside our bodies, with each and every cell depending on the wellbeing and communication of the other cells.

Just read the other day about how birds find their destinations even in bad weather. They have cells in their livers that contain extra iron (Fe) which makes them able to navigate with the planet’s magnetic fields as guides.

It’s amazing, if you take time to sit down and think about it. It’s quite humbling and marvellous, and about time we pay respect to nature, rather than destroy it.

And some still think this all happened by chance without a creator.

I'm just on holiday.

I don't want to change this country, their government or their religion. I'm just spending my pension and savings here, no need for welfare. I don't even need citizenship, their jobs, or their land.

Are you really too stupid not to see the difference?

There is nothing racist about claiming that Kamala favors non-whites but I would like to see some facts. What really scares me about this woman is her laugh.
