With Bank branches closing down, how will one be able to get Bank account letters for Thai Immigration requirements?

They won't but worry about that nearer the time, 10-20 years

At 92 I do not need to worry then.😄

Ok, problem seems to be solved! It´s nice when we don´t need 250+500 posts talking about the local branch that closed and all the suffering 😂

MOVED to Banking Forum

My guess is that over time most of the town/small city branches will close, while most of the shopping malls will continue to have some bank branches.

Hopefully, branches close to immigration offices will remain open; or, at least, immigration may relax the bank statement letter requirements to something like a letter dated no more than a week prior to lodging extension applications.

A forlorn hope I fear, certainly at Chaeng Watthana several banks, including my own, have already closed their branches.

Find another bank. There’s plenty of options.

In my area most of the branches in shopping malls have closed. Most of the ATMs in the shopping malls have disappeared as well.

Yes, same is happening in the US too as AI methods of banking are replacing many bank employees. Such is life that is constantly changing and we must change too to whatever replaces the individual branches and hope we outlive the one in our own area. IMHO anyway.

If you are bored you can but it isn't necessary.

I noticed that with SCB. They still have branches in the big shopping malls, but the secondary ones (like Fortune Town as one example) are disappearing - and when the go so too do their ATMs it seems. Even think about the airport - there used to be Kasikorn and SCB competing for exchange business (and they had their ATMs next to the exchange booths). Now it's only Kasikorn at Swampy - both landside and airside. Also, SCB's stand-alone ATM's seem to be fewer and farther between these days.

Was in my local Louss today and the SCB branch has now gone, zero banks left now. Two ATMs left. One generic and the other a TMB.

Please could you tell us all what a "Louss" is? Google doesn't know, Copilot doesn't know & searches bring nothing up.

Looks like he forgot a T and scrambled some letters. Probably Lotus's the supermarket. 😃

Ohhh, Doh, so obvious now you've said it. I'm rather old so I noticed the company used to use Lotus' quite correctly but now seems to have fobbed off the Grammar Police and is now using Lotus's as in the "Lotus's App" which I use on my phone.

Oh dear, you're gonna get downvoted now that you mocked Marin. But maybe not now because he is going to downvote me. Consider yourself SAVED

Easier said than done given the bars they're increasingly putting in place to the opening of new accounts.

What bars are those? for expats such as the op it's still easy

Such as the Kasikorn one requiring proof of an address back in your home country - impossible to comply with in practice for many who have lived in LOS for several years.

Never heard of that one. Maybe you said you were registered for tax back home

When I opened my Kasikorn account (quite a few years ago), I was asked for my UK address and I gave them my old UK address but said I no longer lived there and had indeed sold the property. I was never asked to provide evidence to verify that address. They were happy with that.

Deposits in Thai banks are guaranteed by the Deposit Protection Agency (DPA),

Which is a Thai government agency.

Feeling safer now 😋
