I can still run up six flights of stairs without huffing and puffing, and my brain works just fine.

Fantastic to be able to do that at 80. Well done. I think many people can maintain their mobility and physical capability like you have by staying active throughout their lives and building functional strength through resistance training.

I’ve been hearing a lot of inspiring stories lately from people in their 70s and 80s like yourself. I think it is better for the rest of us to focus on success stories like yours rather than looking at people of the same age as you who are struggling and assuming we are destined to end up the same way simply because of age.

My view is that most people who are healthy at 40 or 50 have a great deal of influence over how they age. If they stay active, maintain their strength, eat right, and take care of their health, there is every reason to expect they can continue to live well and remain highly functional for many more decades.

This guy cites a study that shows upper managers died younger.

Too much stressful corporate life too long can shave a few years off your life due to constant stress.

My hero George Burns

George Burns lived to the age of 100 by maintaining a remarkably active work schedule, keeping a low-stress, structured routine, and possessing a healthy dose of good genetics.

His personal "prescriptions" for a long life included several practical habits:

  • Continuous Purpose: He never retired. He kept working, performing, and writing well into his 90s, famously stating that staying busy kept him going.

  • Stress Management: He refused to take stress to bed. His famous philosophy was, "I don't worry. I pay my secretary to worry".

Medium·JD's Stories From the Mountain ~

  • Daily Routine: He started his mornings with 45 minutes of floor exercises and stretching, followed by a brisk walk

. He was also a firm believer in the power of an afternoon nap

  • Controlled Eating: He wasn't a heavy eater, preferring to eat only one "good" meal a day and avoiding putting on weight, which he believed caused early death

  • Later-Life Rebirth: In the 1970s and beyond, Burns leaned into a playful, self-deprecating persona, styling himself as a perpetual flirt who loved to be surrounded by young, attractive women. [1, 2]

  • Famous Quips: He frequently joked about his dating life into his 80s and 90s. One of his most famous one-liners was: "I would go out with women my age, but there are no women my age". [1, 2]
