I know, the Great Dismal Swamp is a cool place to visit. Also, The Everglades in Florida is worth a visit. It's a great place to take photos of wildlife.

Aha, so that was the inspiration for the shiny, golden eagle that's trump wants to "beautify" the WH with. Really classy, as usual.thumbsup

The Acclamation Proclamation made the war about slavery.

It did nothing to free any slave and was just a ploy to attempt an uprising of slaves in the south, it did not make slavery illegal in the 4 Union states.

The racist famous speech of Sept 18 1858 in Charleston, part of

I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, [applause]-that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.

Lincoln was the same as many back then. White and somewhat prejudiced, but obviously he changed his thinking which brought about the end of slavery. That slavery is now stronger than ever before shows it has deep roots which are worldwide. Slavery didn't officially end until the 13th Amendment was out in 1865.

Slavery was the main reason the war started, along with western expansion where slavery wouldn't be allowed to occur. The South fighting for each states right to own humans. The South also "needed" slaves to work their plantations while the North was more industrialized. Voting in Lincoln was the beginning of the end of slavery.

Slavery was not the cause, states rights was, Lincoln never said it was about ending slavery even as late as 1862. His only concern was preserving the Union and he was prepared anything to do that, ending slavery came way down the list. I realise Americans have been lied to about this in school for over 100 years.

'My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the union without freeing any slaves I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that.”

Please explain how all us Americans have committed treason. Why would we stick with a mentally unstable King of another country?

This is AI but kinda sums up what he was about concerning Americans...................King George III wronged America by acting as a tyrant through unchecked taxation without representation, suspending colonial legislatures, and hiring Hessian mercenaries. He formally declared the colonies in "open rebellion" in 1775 and stubbornly prolonged the war to punish the colonists, ultimately ignoring American grievances and democratic rights.

America is lost!! To an unstable character perhaps, but we've proven otherwise.Considering the patriots as traitors with England's past history is sorta the pot calling the kettle black. Of course you possibly are being sarcastic, knowing the truth.

Are you saying your homegrown mentally unstable King is any better?😁

I knew it was about those I listed since high school. It was that combination of factors. Lincoln was always a president we talked about in school, and his motives were clear. He was always pro union.

The movie Lincoln is very close to exact..................The Paramount Objective vs. The Moral Imperative: In one of the most striking scenes, Lincoln challenges Radical Republican Thaddeus Stevens. While Stevens views the abolition of slavery strictly through the moral lens of racial equality, Lincoln argues that the Union must balance morality with pragmatism, stressing that rushing equality at the wrong time could lose the border states and doom the entire war effort.

  1. The Importance of Constitutional Abolition: The central climax of the film revolves around Lincoln's fierce, relentless push to pass the Thirteenth Amendment. He explicitly points out that the Emancipation Proclamation was a wartime military measure. He argues that an amendment is absolutely essential to permanently abolish slavery, ensuring that hundreds of thousands of lives were not lost in vain and that the institution could never be reinstated in peacetime.

  2. The Urgency of Time: He treats the passage of the amendment as an urgent deadline before the war ends, telling his staff, "Slavery troubled me in a way that never troubled my father". He pushes to "wrap the whole slavery thing up, forever and aye". It still took until 1865 to end it everywhere.

Read history and see what happened back then, and you'll notice the difference. Trust me, I know what Trumps done way before he ever became president and knew it shouldn't have happened the first time, even though he has done some positive things. Like I mentioned, I'm in the middle and sit back and watch the results. Taking any side is neglecting the facts and reality of what actually goes on. Hero worship blinds many.

While it seems unfair to keep on accusing Trump of being a sandwich short of a picnic, it still seems weird that a state fair is being held in Washington D.C., which is not a state.

There is a bug in the forum software, unfortunately.

Just heard from someone that Trump cannot go after George Soros because Soros is not an American citizen.

If he was, he might have tried to take him down.

Damn shame.

Very interesting list. I'm a bit curious to know their methodology though. JFK just squeeks in at number of 10 of the 'best' - I would have thought higher than that.

Also, same for the 'worst' - Reagan makes the cut (at #10), but many Americans seem to think he was great. I do agree that he started the unwinding of the middle class and destruction of trade unions - so I agree he needs to be on that list. But many Americans thought/think he was great - defeated communism etc.

Interesting you should bring up communism, because Trump has recently brought it up.

Seeking to energize his base ahead of November's midterm elections, President Donald Trump warned that "godless communists" taking over the Democratic Party pose "the most serious threat" to the U.S. since its founding as he addressed the Faith & Freedom Coalition.

Who is the funniest and most entertaining president of all time?

Neither Davis or Lincoln said the war was about slavery. The CSA had as much right to leave the tyranny of the Union, as they saw it, as the 13 colonies had to leave the Crown in 1776.

Lincoln was a Republican, the racist losing slave owners were the Democrats, including black slave owners who owned over 12k black slaves before the war. Everything is not just black and white

Your post is bull<deleted>. The trade unions were on a decline since the 1950's. The left loves to post this same graph and start at 1983. The tax cuts were needed.

really.. go to some no kings protests and try and ask them why they are there, most can't answer you and if you try and talk to them, they just scream at you and call you names if you dont agree with them.

Dumb??? .. I think we're smart enough to know what a man and a woman is, can you tell me what a woman is?

I think that's a pretty one-sided reading of Lincoln.

He absolutely held racial views that we'd reject today, but calling him a white supremacist ignores how much his views evolved during the war. He opposed expanding slavery long before becoming president, issued the Emancipation Proclamation as a wartime measure, pushed for the 13th Amendment and even endorsed Black voting rights shortly before he was assassinated.

It's also true that Lincoln's initial goal was preserving the Union. But it's hard to argue slavery wasn't central to the conflict when the Confederate states repeatedly said preserving slavery was the reason they were seceding.

Lincoln was a complicated historical figure (not a saint), but reducing him to "the worst president" or simply calling him a white supremacist leaves out a lot of important context.

Honestly - I don't care. The only thing a care about is the train-wreak who is currently fubaring the entire country and most of the world - for personal profit, of course.
