Looking into booking a trip to California for me and my boy (12-years-old) for next year. Seems there are no direct flights to LAX from BKK.

The best I've found so far, is on EVA via Taipei which comes to 62,610 baht. Asiana, via Seoul, is similar at around 65,000 baht.

Are these prices OK? They seem pretty good to me. Does booking now (for April 2027) mean you get the best deals, or is worth waiting a few months?

I think you're right. If you look at lowest prices on google flights from now until next April you can see they are basically flat at around 32k the whole period with the exception of some higher prices in December and January. If your committed to the trip I'd certainly book now, you'll get the flights you want and hopefully get to choose decent seats.

already are. $785 on asiana.

use skyscanner. you want to go through korea if you can. japan is a good alternative. search usa ip first, then local to compare

dude, ive done that trip, lax to bkk, probably 20x. korea is the best way to transit

Is LAX the end destination?

I would wait a while and see if fuel prices stabilize. The airlines are hedging against further disruptions.

I used to go back to LA every year on China Airlines via Taipei.

Usually, a good price and painless experience.

When I fly with my kid to the US I get Premium Economy. That way only the 2 of you sitting vs economy has 3 bulkhead seats. Exit row seats can't be had till they're 15. Price for PE seats are generally double the price of economy.

I fly into SF and usually buy either EVA or China Air. Usually the cheapest.

Taipei is much better. EVA, Starlux and China Airlines....all use Taipei...easy peasy.

China Air used to have the best total flight time as well.

Currently, shortest outbound connection is JAL/American 17h 35m, China Air is 18h 5m

Homebound JAL/American is 19h30m vs China Air 18h 50m

Semantics I know but there are no non-stop flights.

UA821 is a direct flight in airline terms but it stops off in HKG. 🤷‍♂️ It may offer more connections if your final destination is not LAX.

korean layovers are nicer

Prices for airline tickets are all over the place and can change from hour to hour. Thai Air used to have a non-stop on an Airbus A350-400?, but those days are long gone.

To and from LAX from BKK, your best bet is to keep you dates flexible and have one of the travel sites notify you of any deals. If you see something that's a good deal without a crazy long layover, consider buying the tickets.

United Airlines flies from LAX to BKK with a two hour stop in Hong Kong. You get off the plane and then reboard the same aircraft again. While it is not a nonstop flight you do not have issues with connections since the same plane. The only downside is you have to go through security again before boarding as the arrival area and departure area are on different floors and you must exit the aircraft while in HKG. Otherwise a decent flight and your luggage is only handled once. Not sure about pricing.

On checking Asiana again, there are a whole range of April dates at the aforementioned price, as opposed to my earlier assertion of starting from the 6th or 13th.

Tickets are refundable for a US$200 fee.

Personally, I would take the night flight with the longer stopover.

American airlines generally suck in comparison to a really good airline like EVA.

That 62,000thb is too much.

In 2025, using skyscanner I got a $695US RT LAX-MNL on Cathay Pacific (great flight), then on my own booked Air Asia RT into Thailand, all done around $1000.00US (thb 34,000).

This year past March was a little more expensive, about $350 more overall.

We are already down to 51,745 baht(agent)/54,280 baht(airline) for two.

The last time I came to Thailand in 2002, I flew on United. San Francisco to Tokyo on United (Dreamliner) and then as part of the United booking, on JAL to BKK. Anyway, I can't complain about the Premium Economy seats on the Dreamliner, and the layover in Japan wasn't too long. The price was very reasonable. On the other hand, the price on Delta was sky high for some reason.

A340. Truly awful, I had the misfortune to have to fly that route multiple times. Even in business class it had a flat bed seat but not horizontal, allowing you to slide down it and end up hanging off the bottom end of it.

I always used Premium Economy and thought it was great. I've done both JFK to BKK and LAX to BKK.

If you thought it was so terrible, why did you fly it multiple times? You could always find a flight that stopped somewhere for a layover or change of planes.

Anyway, even though the flights were advertised as around 17.5 hours, sometimes they never took that long. Once, coming back to LAX, we must have picked up the jet stream, because the total flight was 13.5 hours.
