I am filling out some forms for the fiance visa to the US. I want to know the correct, or at least the best way to write a Bangkok address for the government forms. Unfortunately, the forms do not have the proper fields to accomodate a Thai address, so I plan to put them on a continuation page.

As far as I know, a Bangkok address has the following fields:

Person's Name, Building Name, Street Address, District, Subdistrict, City (Bangkok), Postal code, Country (Thailand).

I'd like to know the order of the fields, as well as which fields go on which lines. My instinct tells me I should do something like

Person's Name

Building Name

Street Address

Subdistrict, District *** Not sure if these should be reversed ***

City Postal Code

Country

Also, what about addresses outside of Bangkok. At some point, the province would have to be mentioned. Maybe something like:

Person's Name

Building Name

Street Address

City, Province Postal Code *** This is the format in the States ***

Country

Thanks,

Dave.

Thanks Cutie. That is how I will write it.

You need to use a format that makes it through the computer program used by who you expect to use the return address. If handwritten no problem but for those sent by computer programs there are very specific formats that can not be altered.

Information you must have is name and street/house number and a Thai sounding name for city. I have received with only Bankak as address and no country. Last week received with no city only street address and Thailand.

Try to fit the format used by company involved. Using "TH" or "TH OS" can save some space for US users as they seem to use "OS" to mean overseas.

Remember most mailers are limited to 3 or 4 lines for address. If you can get the postal code right most letters will make it. It that is missing or wrong the village/district names become more important.

If might be wise to ask what requirements are for specific parties and then tailor you address to those. Don't count on them getting it right as they try to abbreviate things.
