According to reports, the tourist had been walking around the busy nightlife area when he stated he was unable to recall the location of his accommodation. A good Samaritan noticed his condition and called the authorities for assistance. Police then began checking his personal details and coordinating efforts to confirm his identity.

Officers contacted the British Embassy and attempted to reach the man’s relatives as part of the verification and identification process. This coordination aimed to establish his identity clearly and determine the most appropriate assistance. Authorities prioritised his safety and wellbeing throughout the process.

Following initial checks and the man’s continued confessed state, Tourist Police then facilitated the man’s transport to meet embassy staff. Embassy staff provided help in checking he had the necessary correct documentation to enable his onward travel, which will allow him to return to the United Kingdom without further complications.

The case highlights the role of Tourist Police in supporting foreign visitors who encounter difficulties while travelling. Their response involved cooperation between local authorities, embassy officials, and members of the public. Such coordination is often essential in cases involving lost documentation or memory-related issues.

Officials have not disclosed further personal details about the man but confirmed that he received appropriate care and assistance. The incident serves as a reminder for travellers to keep accommodation and travel details accessible while abroad. It also underscores the importance of public awareness in assisting vulnerable individuals.

maybe next time he should tattoo the hotel name on his forehead ... 😅

I often 'forget' where i left my wife, only for her to find me hours later.

I always picked up one of the hotel cards on the way out... just to be sure!

Didn’t the police have access to his TDAC or TM30 information which give accommodation details? Why do we bother to give this information if no one uses it?

Absolutely, with facial recognition software that they have it should not be too difficult to figure this out!

His tatts give all the information you would ever need about this voter.

Agree, but perhaps the tourist police is not allowed to login to immigration records. Different territory.?? Can it be so stupid.. ?

Well a positive outcome involving a Brit instead of the usual negative reporting

On drunkiness and drugs usually associated with some Brits in the media

Google Maps is my friend.

Me too. They are usually readily available at check in.

How did they know he was a Brit ? .... oops sorry .... they must have seen is neck tattoo ... durrr.

Maybe all the ink from the tattoos affected his brain

As already mentioned, google maps and drop a pin.

These days most bookings are made online and one would think that he would have had that information on his smartphone. And if not one would have hoped he would have had the common sense to pick up a card to keep in his pocket. Especially if he's semi senile or suffers from memory issues.

Not to sound critical of the guy, but these seem like fairly basic survival instincts.

Did he forget his name and home address as well?

I do the exact same thing. One for my wife and one for myself, just to be sure.

Just to take a SWAG at the reason. Maybe??? Checked in drunk, went on a bender, wakes up on the sidewalk and realizes he has not idea where his hotel is.

I remember when I was about 20 I was crawling over a speed bump in the road. Trying to figure out where I parked my car... Like to have never got over the speed bump, and never did find the car that night.

Sh$t happens!

Maybe there isn't "room" for it going by the paintwork on the rest of his not inconsiderate bulk of a body!

You posters who commented negatively about this guy are going to get old and make a few mistakes yourself.

The Tourist Police are a worthy venture both in Bangkok and Pattaya. Yeah, they rescued me from Patpong yonks ago!

Many years ago I couldn’t figure out how to get back to my hotel in Hanoi. No problem, I thought, I’ll just jump into a taxi and tell the driver to take me to the Lucky Hotel. Only thing was that there were several establishments of that name in the city.

Well seasoned traveler (NOT)

Been there done that - Boys trip in Prague, I didn't book the hotel.

Beers on flight - dropped of baggage - straight out to sample the local beers.

Homing beacon switched on - walked back to the hotel by which time I realised I didn't know where I was staying.

Luckily, found it in the end.

Same with actual room number - I never carry the card sleeve out - figuring if I loose that with the card in anyone can enter the room.... but I stay in so many hotels and I've checked in so late or tired off a flight etc... when I get up early go out, work all day etc then get back and realise "damn...what floor was it?"... I've learned to take a photo of my room number to avoid the embarrassing question of asking the front desk what room I'm staying in !!!

When you're in hotel so regularly - they can often blend into one.

This fella likely did something similar - checked in boozed up - and simply forgot.

Or, there may have been a mental health issue - anyone who tattoos 'England' on the back of their neck surely faces some sort of stunted mental development.

It could work if 'tracking history' is no - but if someone is in such a state they can't remember their hotel - they're not in a state to use google maps to track previous history.

Now - how many of us have forgotten where we parked the car in a massive multi-story carpark ?

So the embassy confirmed he has the required documentation for onward travel to the UK. Very useful. But did anyone actually find his hotel?

At what age would you suggest we would tatting the back of our necks ?

There's a story worth telling there - surely ?
