How is that anyone's business but his? Do you disclose your tax situation to anonymous strangers?

what are you talking about, it's more popular and expensive than ever now.

....which seems ironic considering the ongoing pollution problem.

I mean you take a city like Vancouver Canada. Housing is expensive as hell but you can breathe and the water quality is impecabble.

What does Chiang Mai offer that's comparable?

and you're above that?

Eating dinner in a Big C Food court?

Yes. I'm far above that. 🙂

. The food court at the mall near the airport is great!

The food Court up on the 4 th floor is no longer there

Didn't he state $800. You have added the minus tax stipulation. You cut out bars and enjoy a simple life that revolves about staying healthy and experiencing things healthy people can do with ease then it probably isn't a bad life. You can live a life of gluttony as many here and spend 100k++ and be walking dumpster fire. Many need to spend because it is all they really have that they can use to measure themselves superior to others. On the surface he seems to be living a great life vs most here.

Why should he mention medical expenses, no-one else's business.

I have lived in Chiang Mai for 36 years. I stay here year round and I have never owned an air purifier or used an inhaler. I have never had air-conditioning either.

😂 Fair enough. Sounds like you’ve spent 36 years proving evolution in real time. The rest of us mere mortals are still trying to keep our lungs factory-standard.

It was on the basement from memory. Google says it was there 1 month ago.

So you know if he has medical insurance? Wouldn't be very expensive at his age, unless there were existing medical conditions.

I ate there in 2012 and it was amazing. The food was incredible and the best food market I have ever ate at. It was huge!

Sadly I have to agree.

A.I. generated video content will make them all redundant, it's just a matter of time.

The typical YouTube watcher doesn't care if a real human made the video.

Same with music.

R.I.P. creatives...

His life living in a tiny box sweating every minute to try to save money on air con will get old soon and at some point he will realize what a fool he is for leaving the UK. Many of these guys burn so many bridges that they are unable to return to their home country. I have lived in Thailand for over 21 years and to live a comparable life to that of my home country costs me over 150,000 BAHT a month, sometimes more. That is just for living expenses not including costs such as autos, holidays, furniture or appliances. If this guy wants to live in a slum and live like a slum dweller, go for it but hardly someone to emulate.

It's still there according to a month old review on google. Ground level. Yeah it's great for northern food. Best one I've been to. Korat has a nice one too in that mall where the shooting occurred.

Drama queen! You can get a nice simple clean place in CM for ~5k with AC. Does he look like his health is a concern or unhappy. He doesn't need a car and healthy activities are basically free. You and I have more toys but I can almost guarantee he is happier than you but that bar is probably quite low.

He's living the absolute dream on £800 a month... right up until Burning Season hits, and he has to spend his entire budget on air purifiers and inhalers.

There is a lot of exaggeration about the burning season it was quite short this year

.

If you were brought up in the UK particularly in the North 1in the 1950/60'syou would know what pullution really was but we survived.

A good day out would be boat to Icon Siam for lunch then go to Chit Beer after.

Chit Beer is only on on the weekend. If you do not arrive by say 3pm you are not going to get a seat as its quite small. Not nearly as fun to sit next door let me tell you.

I’m just wondering how sustainable this really is long term.

The typical mistake is leaving your country and cutting the string completely, with no real return plan.

Hopefully he has thought that part through.

Good luck to him

Some people including myself have no wish or need to return to their home country. You carry out the research and make the plan before you leave.

By that logic we should all start smoking again because some bloke’s grandad made it to 92. 😂

Thais live on 10,000 baht

And good on them but we are not talking about Thai's.

A foreigner Living in Thailand has so many more outgoings, payments etc. to survive

You do what you wish just don't exaggerate and of course if things are so bad it is not compulsory to live in Chiang Mai.

Might be a little shallow but I've starting unsubscribing/stopped watching YouTube channels when they talk about how much money they make from YT - Why should they get paid for my time & not me?

There was a topic on budgets on here. One guy said he lived on 21,000 baht and was happy. Health, women and alcohol would be most pricey things. Daily living is cheap if you aren't trying to keep up with the Jones family.

But you don't know his total budget. He might be happy on 35,000 but could afford more.

What was more sustainable, being a musician back then, or social media today? We do not really know, do we? How old were you? And did you already have a pension?

Obviously, you are one of the winners. Not everyone is so lucky, and many struggle. Thailand versus the UK? I do not know what is worse.

And honestly, I truly believe that for a good life in Thailand, you need a good partner, especially if you are dependent on making a living here. We also know little about him and how he plans to secure his future. Maybe he has more foundation than we know.

Based on what I have observed in the UK particularly when visiting as recent as a year ago when you consider the cost of living including rent utilities etc not to mention the weather I would rather struggle here than in the UK

Agree and keeping up with the jones never brings satisfaction but it is all many have to feel better. I would rather be extremely healthy and poor than wealthy and unhealthy like many. I could spend much more and be OK financially but I know it won't make me more satisfied. I would just buy more "things" that added no incremental value in the long-term.

I have changed my mind a few times, and we will see where I end up. But agree when you are passed the retirement age, it is time to make a final decision for your next years before you close the envelope for the last time. Still he is only 45, but when that is said, he might be a bitcoin millionaire for all we know.

He moved to CM to save on rent. Doubt he is rich. Did you not read the story?
