It is just as cheap to cook at home in most of europe, if not all. Thai rice even costs the same as it costs in Tesco Thailand, in my country. In fact the best thai food i ever had was in thai restaurants in europe due to ingredients, is what the chefs say at least.

I hope so, I hate those things but I still see them going up and people appear to be moving in. Population collapse is happening now too but people may still be moving into Chiang Mai from depopulating villages and increasing the population in the city.

They control the land banks, they control 80% of property and 80% of formal economy and any large business. Nothing ever changes, when that happens, coups happen. Compared to other countries in Singapore they not got more wealthy of this additude either, they got poorer.

It could be fixed only, for real only, and they will stay behind regardless, if they changed right now, that means this year, no a month later. We choose restaurants on the basis that the food has to be at least as good as home cooked, at least as good means ‘as healthy’.

This precludes all street food and almost all Thai restaurants.

The good restaurants that remain don’t have to be expensive, but you need to choose wisely.

Why do you have to choose wisely? If you research health you will find fasting is better for you than food in general. If you eat one meal a day and it's pad thai with chicken you will be more healthy and likely live longer (according to science) than a 3 meal a day western food eater.

I fast most days and eat whatever at night and I'm more healthy than a woman who eats salad 3 times a day. I tried to educate her but women don't listen to science.

Every Thai city has hotels with 5 to 10k monthly deals. I can stay beachfront in Ban Krut for 10k with pool and free water, coffee and biscuits. Motorbike is 5,000 a month. Food is cheap there. Gym is 50 baht. Beach is great.

Bike 5000

Food 6000

Other 5000

26,600 baht a month.

That leaves room for heath care.

Lived in Chiang Mai on and off for years. After I got in my mid 60's I could not handle the pollution. After that I was miserable. To this day I say go when young and enjoy, then find a good retirement destination.

35.000 is not an amount to live a life on is just to survive. No matteer house or car is paid for. Only run A/C when its over 30 is that comfortable ? You never make any renovation to the house ? Health insurance included ? for my health insurance in a Brittish company I pay Sterling Pound 6000 a year.

Really terrible life on a 35K budget. Feel sorry for you and especially your wife

I am in the US right now and I can tell you that inflation is out of control. Those ridiculous inflation and CPI numbers that the government is throwing around has nothing to do with the day-to-day reality of the vast majority of the population. They are pure BS.

Unless you own a nice home free and clear in America and Europe right now or you're quite wealthy it's difficult to live a high quality of life.

By comparison I live very well in Thailand (in a smaller town admittedly) on a relatively modest income. The difference in the cost of living is astonishing, especially if you take into account things like labor cost of home repairs vehicle repairs and things of that nature.

Funny how our memory is distorted when we live in Thailand for many years without going home. My trip last year forced me to adjust to reality. America is outrageously expensive! The supermarket prices were the biggest shocker. I met a friend out for "a" beer and we had chicken wings and the bill $40.

His budget might be 50,000 but he lives on 35,000 and saves the rest. You can live well in CM on 35,000 if you are not a drinker.
