Not at 78 years old. I have used the local University Hospital for a couple of minor ops, gall bladder out, all my annual test only cost Bht 2500 a throw, PSA is Bht 300.

But so many guys on here have said that their Insurance would not pay up even though ancient injuries, wounds and illnesses have completely gone. They want to keep your premium, not pay out to you.

I think the numbers are reasonable. It all depends on your lifestyle. Some get pleasure from supporting a wife and her family. Nothing wrong with that but others enjoy hanging with friends and and don't need the an expensive relationship. If you meet a lower income Thai and support her, 35k would be extremely difficult.

Yes, I've heard that too and have my doubts. Much more to the story I thinks :) I've had great results with Thai insurers.

Sounds like you figured out a solution and I bet you have enough money set aside to cover a major medical expense. Nice to see you are taking control of your health and getting annual tests. Why go into old age without knowing as much as you can about your health is strange.

Well it is MY solution, and yes, I do have some set aside in case of serious illness, but all in my son's names so that when I do pop them, there will be no probate, they will just pay the hospital bill.

Or I could take the easy way out with a bottle of single Malt and a few diazepams before I go any further into old age.

My Mrs has not worked since 2012 after we were both working in Pattaya. I was making enough to move up here when I got my State Pension. I find 35k is enough for us, and her son at University learning to be a Muay Thai teacher.

Nice and I was just guessing. I could do it most months but I would go over ( sometimes drastically ) when unexpected things come up or home improvement projects.

I have friends in Bkk who would go through 35000 in a night at some fancy restaurants and clubs- personally that scene would never attract me at all

It does make me laugh when people come out saying this when they leave out vital information as in he already brought and paid for his house/apartment in Chiang Mai i guarantee it. cuz you can't live on 800 a month comfortably in Thailand thats nonsense. Also where is he getting a pint for 2 quid? More nonsense. for starters its very rare you can even get a pint, the majority of bars only serve bottles which are just over half a pint.

Couldn't agree more, I retired 7 years ago but only started to get a pension in Feb & I'm really struggling with moving from an "Accumulation" to a "Decumulation" mindset

E.g. this month I got my 6 monthly Bond yield, it's sat in my bank account waiting to be spent & all I can think about is where to invest it.

I know some guys will think it's crass but when you've spent over 1/2 your life saving for the future, it's really hard to tell yourself the future is now & you need to start enjoying/spending it.

Some of us just don't support the health insurance Mafia. Thailand has very good public hospitals and we have the ability to participate at a fraction of what it would cost back home. Many of us choose to self-insure and in my particular case I've saved millions of baht by doing so.

It does say he sold everything in the UK to relocate so he maybe quite a wealthy man, I don't know any poor builders, electricians, plumbers in the UK they are well paid trades. He may just be choosing to live this way. I was of the opinion that if you make a living from content created in Thailand and about Thailand and you Live in Thailand you would need a work permit, I stand to be corrected. I wish him all the best and yes you can live on £800 a month if you choose to and he is showing you how, but I would think he is more secure than we think.

The commercial real estate market is collapsing. Many houses are for sale but no buyers. I have seen so many restaurants come and go. A local Thai restaurant that was in business for over 30 years just closed. Their landlord double their lease at time of renew.
