Obviously, you are one of the winners. Not everyone is so lucky, and many struggle. Thailand versus the UK? I do not know what is worse.

And honestly, I truly believe that for a good life in Thailand, you need a good partner, especially if you are dependent on making a living here. We also know little about him and how he plans to secure his future. Maybe he has more foundation than we know.

Much of my professional music life was in Norway, so made a good living with my then wife as one of my singers. We started private UK pensions mid 80s, but I cashed them in when we divorced to buy land here in 2002 which I then sold at a vast profit to buy house and car in 2012. I do get a small state pesnsion from Norway, giving us enough to live on.

Paid 20bht for two large potatoes (local market), 70bht for a pork loin joint (Lotus's) this morning.

Will be having baked potato, roast pork and gravy for lunch ........ 25bht per serving (3 meals 90bht).

Just back from cycling 15Km, hardly any traffic and no pollution, weather was great (but looked like it might rain).

Also purchased 200g of cannabis bud for 950bht, no need for imported drinks!

No mention of medical expenses. I suppose he will appeal to his followers for fund me cash in a medical emergency.

I don't really understand why people that found their so called "little paradise" have to publicize all over the Internet so soon it will be over run by the people and problems that you were running away from. In his case I guess it is part of his job.

3000 GBP in the UK or 800 GBP in Thailand would give you a similar lifestyle .

That dude could travel the entire country and stay in hotels on 800 pounds a month. He can't do that in the UK.

Yeah anyone can live in a studio room for 3000 baht and eat only Thai priced street food a few years, but then reality kicks in. If the guy made the same Thai food in UK and rented a student room, the budget would not be that different.

If only few of them had the brains to realize that, they could work a few years like that, and save up a ton (which destroys the entire Gen Z argument of 'i can not save up to buy a house' too.

The truth is they are sheep people, they can only follow a herd, hence it works for them in Thailand but not in UK, as standards are simply higher, and they want to be on page 1 from day 1.

In Thailand living that same lifestyle, their ego can still survive, as of seeing most locals do the same.

There obviously is no health insurance, any real insurance that really covers, cheapest, even at age 30 today, costs 5-6K baht per month. Anything cheaper is just a fake insurance for small things only, often not covering it on top.

So he doesn't need the cheapest real health insurance (5,000 baht), he never needs new clothes, maintain a bike, a new phone or visit home (even if it is once i 4 years). He does't travel anywhere on that budget either. He will never get a serious girlfriend on it either. But he is telling us, HE LIVES THE DREAM!!!

It is not at all, they just diversified from the 2 main areas to 6 areas and all are sluggish entirely since 2016. Most houses are even empty or for rent, just capital parking of the elite. Maybe you need to get out your cave more often to observe actual reality. Nothing of Chiang Mai original people or vibes is even left over at this point.

Also both real estate prices for sale and for rent are down since 1.5-2 years hard already. It started from the last flooding and it only got worse since the last earthquake on top. They ditch houses for <10k a month that used to be 25K 2.5 year ago.

Why can't he travel? Hua Hin has 8000 baht monthly rooms with large pool and gym. Fan trains cost 24 baht per hour of travel. Massaman curry is 50 baht beach front at Ban Krut. Daily gym is 50 baht. If he rents by the month he could travel the entire country on that budget.

The UK offers a significant social wage, not least health care but also schooling for kids and a welfare safety net.

Yeah have fun with that, pathetic. Those are paper plans, not reality, you would be a sweating meatball after hour 2. If all those things were really that fun, many people would do it, and they don't.

yes that true and that's because the high level of development and housing projects everywhere. More expats and tourists than ever now too. What am I missing? CM in 2026 is obviously more popular than 2001 right???
