Pantip Plaza is just over the road so you can combine a clothes buying trip at Pratunam (still the best market I've come across in Thailand for that) with a software splurge.

Talking of Pratunam... isn't it starting to look more and more desserted? I think the economy is picking up and people are opting for other places to buy their clothes?

Be aware that the sidewalks of Pratunam can get crowded at times and as such prime hunting area for pick-pocket teams.

My wife got her wallet snatched from her purse over there last week. Classic team-work: 3 guys crowd up in front of you blocking your path - another 2or 3 behind you push and shove a little bit to divert attention. Wallet's gone (and passed on to someone behind the actual snatcher) within a few seconds. Even if you see/feel something funny going on your stuff will already be long gone.

This is of course true for similar areas around the world - but since it happened very recently there may be a team operating as we speak. My wife said there was at least one woman among them and thought they looked like southern thais...

where is pratunam market ?

Any cab driver will know where to take you if you just tell him "Pratunam market", but you're likely to be dropped smack in the middle of the wholesale area. If the driver understands "Amari Watergate", get him to drop you in the street outside. Street stalls start virtually next door to the hotel and continue around the corner for the length of the block, and there are a squillion alleyways which take you into the maze. If you bargain hard, Pratunam prices are generally lower than in other inner city markets. Jatujak market is well worth a look on weekends.

Hi,

How to go there via skytrain? We'll be staying at Asia Hotel, do u think it's better to take skytrain or cab? Thanks.

At Asia Hotel you are as close as Skytrain gets. You could walk from that hotel but a taxi would be the best method.
