Perhaps you should keep a piece clenched between your cheeks? As this towel hack is clearly not working out too well, Just maybe, whoever suggested the towel Idea to you meant that you should use a sanitary towel secreted in your underwear rather than a bath towel under your naked butt

As I've frequently said here, NOTHING to do with my ass. In fact, that part of the towel doesn't stink. It's my upper back that does.

Some old people smell really bad - you probably just need to shower with soap more often rather than relying on elaborate washing regimes once a month

Yes ,they have Bath Tubs in Los .

Of course they do, my house, too. Unless you bathroom is meat locker temp, who'd get into a hot bath? Maybe a Thai temp bath for cooling down or after exercise--outdoors is best. My shower is outdoors under the banana trees, which means the whole neighbourhood has seen my ass and is used to it!

Somebody here mentioned carbolic soap but I can't find the reply. However, I have found some genuine carbolic soap made with phenols from real coal tar, thus antiseptic, apparently produced in Jamaica, mon. The venerable UK brand, Wrights, no longer uses phenols. They use coal tar fragrance but the antiseptic ingredient is tea tree oil. I've order the Jamaican variety from Jeff Bezos' GoFundMe.

I've stripped the process down to its basic ingredients and just use the essential oil, a light smearing of pure "fuming" medical grade "Pla ra" does the job perfectly and without those pesky little crabs getting in the way

Okay, more TMI. G/f & I stayed in a youth hostel at a university in Moncton, New Brunswick. I caught crabs and she didn't. Of course, I wrote her to make sure and she didn't take it well.

I continued hitching across Newfoundland and then to the Franch islands of St. Pierre. I pitched my little orange tent on the hillside overlooking the town. That's where a French doctor diagnosed crabs. As I recall, there was some cream or ointment. But what about my clothes and bedding?

Doc very kindly suggested I talk to the cook at X restaurant after lunch hour. I did, and he boiled all my clothes and bedding in a giant pot. I never ate there!

I read about this and never knew there was that kind of problem that came with age or that there was a soap you could buy. A persimmon based soap. You can buy it from Japan or China. At first I was buying some persimmon bar soap from China, but it was kind of pricy, so I switched to some persimmon soap from Japan that comes in a pump bottle. Maybe it'll do some good, not that I stink in the first place.

In hot weather, all it takes is some kind of activity followed by a quick shower to rinse off. 😉 Shaving, trimming, or waxing some body hair, especially your armpits, also helps reduce body odor.

Even I, the old psychedelic warrior have to admit to not caring much for hairy pits or bush. Many Thai women don't need to shave their legs or other parts, there's simply no hair there. Wife has never had to shave anywhere. No matter how hard she works, she doesn't smell bad.

If you meant me, Hum, I don't even like to shave my face!

Not sure if this helps but my mother in law uses some particularly strong smelling soap, It has a cartoon picture of a green parrot on the wrapper, My mrs gets it for her from Big C I think its quite popular with the old Thai women I've even seen it given away as a thank you gift at a few funerals. I have never noticed any "old people's small" emanating from her all I can smell is the soap its not exactly "hugo boss" but not unpleasant. might be worth a try

The other thing to consider ( not sure if its been mentioned ) is that it might not be you , it could be the towel are you sure its getting washed properly? It might need a boil wash if its been festering in the laundry basket and its not only the washing that needs checking , it's important that it gets dried and aired thoroughly too, any remaining bacteria will soon start to regenerate if it gets put away whilst damp, Can be difficult at this time of year, but if you have a washer / drier it should be easy enough

I've heard that hanging things out on the washing line in the sun can help kill the bacteria

Hey, old fart! You stink!

I can smell your feet a mile away! (Smile away, smile away…)

I compute on my couch naked with a towel underneath to catch my sweat. My towel really stinks after three days. If towel stinks, I must stink.

The trouble is that this old age chemical is wax-based rather than composed of body oils. That makes it really hard to wash off.

Did some research into this and came up with persimmon. Japanese pick green persimmons and ferment them for three years. These tannins are used mostly for dyes. But I want to try making them into a body scrub with Castile soap.

Don’t bother looking. I’ve only found one company that sells the liquid tannin and will be stocking powdered by end of summer. Canadian company, Maiwa.

Nonenal (2-Nonenal) is a chemical compound produced when fatty acids on the skin oxidize. Widely known as the scientific cause of "aging odor" or "old person smell," it typically begins to develop around age 40 and has a distinct greasy, grassy, or musty scent.

Why It Happens

  • Biochemical Change: As people age, the skin's lipid composition changes, resulting in more Omega-7 unsaturated fatty acids. Simultaneously, the body's natural antioxidant defenses decrease, causing these fatty acids to oxidize and break down into Nonenal. [1, 2, 3, 4]

  • Not a Hygiene Issue: Nonenal is water-insoluble and grease-based. Because it is a lipid compound, traditional soaps and scrubbing do not wash it away. [1, 2, 3, 4]

How to Manage and Eliminate It

Because ordinary soaps are ineffective against Nonenal, a targeted approach is required to neutralize the molecule and prevent its accumulation: [1]

  • Use Persimmon Extract: Soaps or body washes formulated with Persimmon Tannin are highly effective. The molecular structure of the tannin binds to and breaks down the Nonenal molecule, neutralizing the odor rather than just masking it. [1, 2]

  • Focus on Problem Areas: The odor is most heavily concentrated where sebaceous glands are dense: the back of the neck, behind the ears, the chest, and the upper back. [1]

  • Target Clothing and Bedding: Nonenal easily transfers to and sticks to fabrics. Washing contaminated items with oxygen bleach or enzyme-based detergents and drying them in direct sunlight helps break down the odor. [1, 2, 3]

  • Adjust Diet: Reducing the intake of saturated fats, fried foods, and processed meats lowers the production of fatty acids on the skin. Consuming antioxidant-rich foods, such as berries, leafy greens, and green tea, helps reduce oxidative stress

[OIL-FREE] Oil-free persimmon body wash recipe

An oil-free persimmon body wash rinses completely clean without leaving a residue, making it ideal for oily or acne-prone skin while retaining full deodorizing power. Because it lacks heavy oils, this formula relies on vegetable glycerin to keep the skin hydrated without clogging pores. [1]

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Liquid Castile Soap (unscented)

  • 2 tbsp Aloe Vera Gel (pure, inner-leaf gel for soothing hydration)

  • 1 tbsp Vegetable Glycerin (acts as a humectant to draw moisture to the skin)

  • 1 to 2 tsp Liquid Persimmon Extract (Kakishibu)

  • 10 drops Essential Oils (Peppermint or eucalyptus provides a crisp, oil-free cooling sensation) [1, 2, 3]

Instructions

  1. Blend Hydrators: In a clean mixing bowl, whisk the aloe vera gel and vegetable glycerin together until completely smooth and unified.

  2. Incorporate Extract: Stir the liquid persimmon extract directly into the aloe and glycerin mixture.

  3. Combine with Soap: Slowly pour in the liquid castile soap. Stir gently with a spoon to mix the ingredients thoroughly without creating unwanted foam.

  4. Bottle: Transfer the mixture into a clean pump bottle or soap dispenser. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Usage & Storage

Shake the bottle gently before each use, as natural ingredients can settle over time. Since this recipe utilizes shelf-stable extracts and aloe gel, it can be stored right in your shower and will remain fresh for up to 6 months.

[OIL] Persimmon extract body wash recipe

Using shelf-stable liquid persimmon extract (Kakishibu) allows you to create a long-lasting, highly effective deodorizing body wash that breaks down tough body odors like nonenal. Unlike fresh fruit puree, a recipe using botanical extract does not require refrigeration and will last for months. [1,

, 3, 4]

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Liquid Castile Soap (like Dr. Bronner's Unscented available on Amazon)

  • 1 to 2 tsp Liquid Persimmon Extract (Kakishibu) or 1/2 tsp Japanese Persimmon Extract Powder

  • 1 tbsp Vegetable Glycerin (for a richer lather and hydration)

  • 1 tsp Sweet Almond Oil or Jojoba Oil (to prevent skin dryness)

  • 10-15 drops Essential Oils (Tea tree, eucalyptus, or Japanese yuzu complement the formula well) [

    ,

    , 3, 4, 5]

Instructions

  1. Dissolve (if using powder): If you are using persimmon extract powder instead of liquid, mix the powder thoroughly into the vegetable glycerin first to ensure it dissolves completely without clumping. [

    ]

  2. Combine Base and Oils: In a clean mixing bowl or glass measuring cup, gently stir together the liquid castile soap, vegetable glycerin, and your chosen carrier oil. [

    ]

  3. Add the Extract: Stir in the liquid persimmon extract (or your dissolved powder mix). [

    , 2]

  4. Scent and Bottle: Drop in your chosen essential oils and stir slowly to prevent generating excess foam. Pour the finished liquid into a clean soap dispenser.

Why Extract Works Better

Commercial and premium options like Mirai Clinical's Purifying & Deodorizing Body Wash exclusively use Japanese persimmon extract because the condensed kakishibu tannins specifically bind to and eliminate lipid-based odors like nonenal. Regular soaps only wash over these oxidized fatty acids without breaking them down.

100-gram batch of deodorizing persimmon body wash using a gentle surfactant base.

Ingredients (100-gram Batch)

  • Distilled Water: 59.0 grams (Diluent)

  • Dehyton KT (Cocamidopropyl Betaine): 30.0 grams (Gentle surfactant)

  • Glycerin: 5.0 grams (Humectant for moisture)

  • Persimmon Extract Powder: 3.0 grams (Deodorizing active at 3%)

  • Liquid Germall Plus: 0.5 grams (Broad-spectrum preservative)

  • Fragrance Oil: 0.5 grams (Optional scent)

  • Xanthan Gum: 2.0 grams (Natural thickener) [1, 2, 3]

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Hydrate the Thickener: Mix the Xanthan Gum into the Glycerin until it forms a smooth paste. Slowly pour the Distilled Water over it while stirring constantly until a smooth gel forms. [1, 2, 3]

  2. Add the Surfactant: Gently stir the Cocamidopropyl Betaine into the water gel. Stir slowly to avoid creating excess foam.

  3. Cool Down Check: Ensure the mixture temperature is well below 50°C to protect the heat-sensitive persimmon powder.

  4. Incorporate Actives: Add the Persimmon Extract Powder, Liquid Germall Plus, and Fragrance Oil to the mixture. Stir gently until the powder completely dissolves and everything is evenly blended. [1, 2]

  5. Adjust pH & Package: Check the pH level. It should ideally be between 5.5 and 6.0. Pour into a clean pump bottle.

Now what have you been smoking today ?
