Trump Says Iran School Strike Images May Be AI-Generated

Featured Replies

More than four months after a US bombing in southern Iran hit the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school, killing 120 children and dozens of teachers and parents, uncertainty remains about how the attack unfolded and what evidence will be made public.

Investigators and commentators have pointed to material suggesting the Pentagon’s role in the strike. They cite reports that US Tomahawk missile fragments were found at the site, along with leaked commentary from military analysts and operational profiles of US forces reportedly involved in the region.

Sky News and Forensic Architecture review school history

The debate has been sharpened by a new analysis by Sky News and the research group Forensic Architecture, which reconstructed the school using a three-dimensional model.

The study concluded that the location had been used as a school for years prior to the attack, contradicting an argument advanced elsewhere that older intelligence was a key factor behind the strike.

Supporters of that position say the reconstruction reduces the likelihood that the target was misidentified based on outdated information. Opponents of the US assessment argue that the analysis strengthens calls for further transparency.

Trump tells Fox he may consult generals

US President Donald Trump, however, said he was not satisfied with the explanation and raised the possibility that the imagery at the centre of the controversy could be manipulated.

Speaking to Fox News anchor Trey Yingst, Trump did not say whether the results of the US investigation would be released. He said he still needed to “speak to the generals”.

Trump also suggested that a definitive account of what happened may be impossible, adding that there were images from the site that showed fragments appearing to be from US Tomahawk missiles. When asked whether the incident could have been caused by old intelligence or a mistake during a busy period of fighting, Trump agreed that such scenarios were possible.

He then said it was also possible that the images could be “AI generated”, while arguing that he did not believe there could be a conclusive report.

Amnesty calls for transparency, truth and reparations

Human rights groups have urged the US government to provide clearer information to families of the victims.

In a statement, Amnesty International national director of government relations and advocacy Amanda Klasing said the public and victims’ families must receive transparency and accountability, and that families were owed truth, justice and reparations.

Klasing said Trump had made contradictory statements and that the Pentagon had refused to provide information to Congress. She also criticised responses from lawmakers and the public, saying they were growing frustrated with the “rote” position adopted by Secretary Hegseth and others that the incident was still under investigation.

Amnesty’s statement asserted that the US military was responsible for killing more than 150 people in an attack using precision-guided Tomahawk missiles against a school filled with children.

While the competing accounts continue to evolve, the new reconstruction and Trump’s comments have added fresh pressure on the US to clarify what evidence led to the strike and what conclusions investigators have reached.

tl:dr:: The RAND Corporation coined the name "firehose of falsehood" in 2016, describing a technique it observed in Russian propaganda that combines a very large number of communications and disregard for the truth.

The biggest liar in the history of the American presidency, the man who makes Richard Nixon look like a Boy Scout, is utterly desperate and will say or do anything to try to rescue himself from sinking poll numbers. He's being abandoned by many of his supporters at this point, as they're seeing through the charade and realizing how inept he is, and how lacking im skill and substance he is when it comes to something like conducting a war, or leading a nation. Into oblivion, perhaps.

Sadly, he was, by Russian AI bots. Without Putin, Trump would be in prison.

The fact is that these days we can never be sure whether what we are looking at is AI generated, or not.

True- and of course we all know that when Trump talks it is easy to see when he is lying- as his lips move

I believe nothing that Trump says.

He lies about everything. He even lies about his lies.

Sad day when you might trust Iranian news reports more than anything coming out of the White House. IMG_7221.jpeg

That is a good point and one of the most profound aspects of this ridiculous war of choice is that Trump has taken a genocidal regime that nearly everyone despised, and made them infinitely more sympathetic than America around the world.

Now that takes a special kind of talent.

Doesn’t Hegseth have rather more important things on his plate than testosterone screening policies?

Of course he does. But whether he is capable of delivering on those rather more important things is a different story. Hegseth can pump himself and his troops with as many hormones as he likes, but absolutely nothing is going to make the former Fox News host qualified for his job as defense secretary. As I think he might be realizing, geopolitics is difficult. Military strategy is difficult. Diplomacy is difficult. Rampaging around screaming about “beardos” and trying to butter up your testosterone-obsessed manosphere fans with videos about hormone screenings, however, is easy. Forget screening troops for testosterone; the US should be screening its defense secretary for basic competence.

One of Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei's military advisers

said Donald Trump had moved from the “madman” to “desperate man”...

“Attacking pilgrims in Shalamcheh and threatening infrastructure attacks are nothing but signs of desperation and helplessness”

Sounds very reasonable. 🤭

The situation is so complicated only Trump and Richard_Smith really know what is going on.

Of one thing we can be certain, there is precious little intelligence, artificial or otherwise, involved in any of Mr Trumps verbal meanderings.

Your malign wicked prosecution of an unfounded aggressive war, started to deflect from your equally foul and wicked acts of perversion on children in your past; and the incompetence (being generous) of the military machine you deployed to conduct that war are responsible for the slaughter of those children. You will answer soon enough. I hope it leads to sleepless nights.

Far from convincing. The Guardian's involvement doesn't help. I continue to keep an open mind on this issue.
