Thai passport slips to 63rd in 2026 Henley Index

Featured Replies

Thailand's passport has dropped two places to 63rd in the 2026 Henley Passport Index, leaving it fifth among Asean member states.

Thai passport holders can travel to 77 destinations without a visa requirement, according to the latest annual ranking. That is fewer than half the 192 destinations available to holders of Singapore passports.

The Henley Passport Index ranks 199 passports according to their access scores across 227 travel destinations.

Thailand fifth among Asean passports

Singapore again held the world's most powerful passport position, a status it has held since 2004, when it shared the top spot with Japan. Japan has ranked second in each of the past two years.

Within Asean, Malaysia ranked second with access to 183 visa-free destinations. Brunei was third with 163, followed by East Timor with 93 and Thailand with 77.

Indonesia remained 68th globally, with access to 70 destinations. The Philippines ranked 72nd with 65, Vietnam was 87th with 48, Cambodia 88th with 47, Laos 89th with 47 and Myanmar 91st with 43.

The regional access figures were listed as follows:

Singapore, 192 destinations; Malaysia, 183; Brunei, 163; East Timor, 93; Thailand, 77; Indonesia, 70; Philippines, 65; Vietnam, 48; Cambodia, 47; Laos, 47; and Myanmar, 43.

For Thai nationals, including those who may live overseas or hold another nationality, the ranking is a broad indication of how many destinations may be entered without arranging a visa in advance. Individual entry rules can still vary by purpose of travel, length of stay and the traveller's circumstances.

The United States passport was ranked 10th in the 2026 index. Iran was placed 96th, while Afghanistan was at the bottom of the table at 104th.
