Haven't you got any neighbours? I can think of three guys that do welding that all live within 100 metres of me. They would probably all do it for a bottle of Sang Som.

Maybe he is scared of his neighbors.

For B750 that is not a welder ,I am not clicking your links but for that price it cannot be a welder ,more like a soldering iron , just spend a B1000 and get a good job done. regards worgeordie

You can do it, though you’ll need to read up on it and getting familiar with what type of welder you want to use and what sticks that are applicable for what steel. It will be messy until you get the

500baht for a welder + gloves+ mask +Grinder + discs +welding rods + Clamps +and don't forget some filler to plug the holes, It will soon add up to 1000bt , And then, as you have never welded before, you can add on the price of a few additional sets of hinges and the cost of the professional repairs that will be required to the gate you are going ruin.

Cheaper to pay somebody to do it , and far less frustrating

To start with, I have never welded in my life.

Now I want to weld 2 steel door hinges of the type pictured below.

To get a tradesman with a welding machine here to do it for me, probably sets me back 1000 baht. Yes I'm in Pattaya, not upcountry.

So I had a look at Shopee and see that you already can have a welding machine for 750 baht, after discount voucher probably about 500 baht or even less

I assume that thingy will do the job for 2 hinges, and if it dies straight after, I still save 500 baht compared to get a tradesman.

So as a noob, will I be able to weld those 2 hinges with what is available on Shopee for 700 baht?

Please advise a cheap machine that will do the job, as I understand there are MIF/TIG/MMA and more types. Some need argon, so they are out of the question, others use flux-core wire and others a rod.

If you please could link to one under 1000 baht on Shopee as that is the easiest for me to order.

Thanks in advance

My son welds, and I've tried his equipment. It isn't easy but after 10-20 hours you could be competent and capable of making a safe and permanent joint.

If spending the money is a big problem, I'll chip in 500 baht to help you pay for a competent third-party to do it for you.

Why not put your money where your mouth is, instead of feeling the need for a hidden insult you imbecile

The hinges will be welded on a loft entrance, similar to the picture below.

In fact the door is already installed with 2 hinges, I just want to add 2 more for extra safety. Should actually as easy as lay the hinges on the frame and weld at both ends.

So, not only are you going to ruin a perfectly good alloy ladder, you stand a good chance of at best ruining your decor, and at worst setting rhe house on fire!

Even the simplest job needs care and consideration of the risks, and a degree of skill with the equipment, and appropriate precautions taken. I have been welding (amateur) for 30 years and still am not anywhere near professional standard.

Forget it, you will spend mpre learning to weld badly than you will to pay an expert. Owning a welder is not enough, you need the proper gear to go with it: clamps, magnets, heatproof shielding, gloves, proper mask preferably automatic.

Welders' Eye is not a pleasant condition!

An odd reaction to an offer to help but anyway... Send me a QR code in a PM to pay you to get an outside contractor.

Nobody said that there would be welding on the aluminium ladder, and neither shows the picture the hings connected to the ladder. In fact, I responded already that he hinges are welded on the steel frame of the door.

Why not just use screw on hinges?

Mainly because they aren't that type of hinge- as shown in original post.

And also because screws will not be strong enough to carry the weight of door + ladder + human standing on the ladder

The ladder doesn't reach the floor?

The equipment is the least of your problems. When the door falls on you or anyone else cause you can't weld properly it will cost you more than 1000 THB.

Welding is not as simple as it seem while watching a YouTube or when watching a pro doing it.

Of course the ladder reaches the ground, the downward force when someone is standing on the ladder is obviously at the top.

When the door is open, and the ladder slid out, the door is in an approximate 45° position, hence I want to add 2 additional hinges to the ones already welded on

I saw that, and wondered why someone that does not know how to weld, and that does not have a welded, would buy weld-on hinges.

One cheap 1/4"-20 screw has a tensile strength of over 1,000 kg,

Maybe because if you had bothered to read the OP, you would know there are already 2 welded hinges in place, and I just want to add 2 similar ones.

Just look in a mirror if you want to have a laugh, but actually I think you will start to cry if you have a close look

How about climbing the ladder and give us a picture of the actual hinges in place.

Just a thought.

Had you had called a welder it would have been fixed by now.

Given you have two welded hinges; extra bolted ones will add additional support and comfort?

We are laughing already at someone who ask for advice and then berates those giving such advice.

Get a local welder to do it!

Why are you still posting after asking for the topic to be closed. You said in the first post above that you would make up your mind! When are you going to do that?

Have you ever heard about a cracked weld?

You asked for advice to weld, and commonly said is, dont do it.

However it is set in your mind, so do it.

You are standing then on a ladder to connect in the loft entrance.

One hand the welding torch, other hand the hinge. Space is tight.

To protect yourself against heat , you wear gloves and for your eyes you protect with the special glassmask. You dont see anything then anymore, only when you start welding.

SO what about your precious safety? What about your clothing, nylon? sparks will fall on it.

And all will happen in tight environment, on a ladder above normal working situation!

AND you have never done before, Just some thoughts to think over before you leap.

Conditions to think off, material needs to be clean, no oil or paint or whatever, plain metal.

Impurities can destroy your welding and therefor your precious safety.

On what you put the negative clamp? you can put it on frame, hatch?

You know how much amp you have to set? Too less, too cold too much and it can burn up.

Good welding is nice straight line, bad then you have rocky line.

I think, everybody is anxious to know if you succeeded , please with pics to show.

Make a movie of it !
