Jetstar to charge for overhead luggage

7kgs carry on for free is normal. Most use it.

I recently flew on a Chinese airline that had the standard 7kg carry-on limit. Many clearly exceeded that limit with no penalising deterrent. This makes life difficult for rule-abiding passengers as the cheaters load their huge carry-on into the overhead lockers.

Well done for Jetstar.

Oxygen is wildly overrated. Besides, you’ve been an oxygen thief your whole life. Truth is, you don’t even need it. Just stop wasting everyone else’s supply. Problem solved.

That's a rubbish airline anyway. Nobody with any sense flies with that lot. Anyone sane knows it’s the airline of choice for bogans and muppets.

Certainly interesting timing given that in less than 5 months they must include an overhead bag in the base fare in Europe.

I don' think Jetstar flies into Europe..

A Jetstar flight was involved in a tarmac near-miss with a Qatar Airways aircraft at Sydney Airport at around 7:00 AM on Sunday, August 9, 2026. The sudden emergency braking injured one cabin crew member who required paramedic treatment, though no passengers were hurt.

Search sites like Google flights, Kayak, Momondo etc let you select what carry-on luggage you want and simply eliminate options which don't suit you. Couldn't be simpler but no, not good enough for the meddlers and more difficult for the majority of travellers whose bottom line is price.

To try and keep on topic, Jetstar are just doing what other LCCs have been doing for ages and what people want to see.

Do you not understand that this is a new policy to be implemented next year?

That the topic is a fee to ensure that one's carry-on is stored?

I understand completely, my posts were part of an off topic sidetrack when someone (wrongfully) posted that the practice was to be banned in the EU from next year.

Another post intended to misrepresent and to mislead. The airline is charging its fares based upon services provided. Basic airfares without the OH access are less expensive than the standard airfares which include the OH storage. How difficult is that to understand? Many JetStar passengers do not travel with carry ons and did not want to subsidize the passengers who did. It's fair and equitable. You pay for the services you want. Why should every passenger have to pay an extra A$25+ to cover the passengers who want to use OH space?

You have a weird way of thinking.

So further developing it, the average passanger weight is 68 kg, the fare calculated on it.

Pbvious, to carry the heavier passangers cost more fuel. So to carry their heavier body are supported by the average persons' fare.

It would be fair, over 68 kg, every extra kilogramm.of bodyweght would be charged with 10 $/kg.

Rule of Thumb:

The smaller and/or the better looking the woman, the bigger the carry on bag.

You must be using a convex mirror to fit this description.

So it's in response to complaints from the passengers that habitually forego cabin baggage (both of them), and absolutely nothing to do with a cash-strapped LCC eking out a Ryanair-esque existence and stopping their customers from milking the system with oversize and overweight hand-carry items (you know who you are).
