Proof of ownership of a business and details of earnings of a very decent wage if not the owner of a buisness I was told would be ok

This is from my brother in law who works at the government office.

He suggested I get one years ago but says it has become far stricker now which to be honest is a good thing.

Many foreigners here can get their thai wives to do this but they would need to show evidence of why they would need one and I expect many wives are not working and on Tiktok most the day.

Same reason prostutution is illegal, but it's everywhere. Same reason motorcycle helmets are mandatory but many don't wear them. The government could ban guns, but it wouldn't get rid of them.

So you don't inact laws because you will struggle to enforce them everywhere? You may not eradicate 100%, but with tougher laws, harsher sentencing, banning the sale, etc you can make a a start.

Well they seem to regard personal freedom quite strongly. They allow the locals to hunt, protect themselves and their property. A few guns may be quieter than a mob with pitchforks! It's not like other countries that allow gun ownership don't have shooting issues is it......even some that don't. Despite being from the UK I approve that say, the USA, gives it's citizens the ability to defend themselves, their family, their property. Can't always depend on the police..... they are overstretched pursuing trivialities in the UK!

That said, where guns, alcohol and drugs can mix, things get dangerous.

They don't have a political entity like the NRA but have two gun associations for target shooting, Olympic shooting and gun clubs Hunting is illegal here but they don't care about people shooting rats, even though they shoot anything they can get away with. Thailand has the highest rate of gun ownership in SEA. 15 guns for 100 people.

I understand your indignance. Thailand actually has some very well drafted and enacted laws. Lack of enforcement, bribery and general corruption and a public that largely ignores most of the laws impede their effectiveness. That's just the general public. The wealthy and well-connected operate with complete impunity most of the time. The recent legislation to ban carrying firearms (like on your person, in the glove box of the car, etc.) might be a good start. But it would never prevent an act like the school shooting. BUT it might prevent a heated argument (like road rage) from turning into a gun fight.

I don't know the history of gun ownership here, but it might be to do with lack of trust in police and judiciary - so people feel the need to defend themselves and deter others and they buy a gun(s)

By the way, around half of the firearms in Thailand aren't registered. That's the official estimate.

Er.. with me! I hung the key on a hook in my bathroom, put them in my swimming trunks pocket etc.

I took gun safety seriously, especially as I had 3 young kids..

it would help if you did not have other assets
but it is NOT a requirement
You also do not need to "provide evidence" why
you simply show you have assets worth protecting, and that is enough
The "why" is then simple "I have money"
My wife went through it all, as have many other wives of foreigners I know.
