Trump Says US Has Total Control Over Strait of Hormuz

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the United States has complete control over the Strait of Hormuz and that Iran is not in a position to control the waterway. Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, the president said developments involving Iran were “going fine” and renewed his assertion that Washington, rather than Tehran, directs activity in the strait.

Trump said the situation around Iran was progressing favourably, adding that he believed the US held control over the key shipping route. He pointed to the US Navy and said American forces were operating effectively.

He argued that Iran did not have the ability to influence the strait and said the US was the only country with control. Trump continued by saying the United States “owns” the control of the passage, describing the current position as advantageous for the country.

Talks Continue, but Trust Is Absent

While Trump portrayed diplomacy with Iran as moving in a positive direction, he also said he did not trust Tehran’s representatives. He told reporters he was sceptical of Iran and said he had been misled repeatedly.

In his account, the president contrasted his view that negotiations were progressing with his belief that Iran could not be relied upon. He said he remained unconvinced by Tehran’s statements and maintained that the US held the stronger position in the region.

Military Action Still Possible

Trump also suggested that renewed military action could be considered if Iran were to take steps that the United States viewed as unacceptable. He said that, at some point, Iran might act and then face consequences.

Describing the current period as stable from Washington’s perspective, he said the balance of power was in the US favour at the time of his remarks. He framed his comments around the idea that the US maintained control over Hormuz and that Iran did not.

The president’s comments came as he continued to characterise US efforts related to Iran as advancing, while simultaneously signalling that force remained an option should circumstances change.

Unfortunately the fact of the matter is just the threat of destruction by Iran is enough to stop shipping can you tell me the cost of insurance to attempt?a week or so ago the premium was 10%…. That’s pricey!!! Of course our navy can transit the streight at will normal shipping cannot. This entire mess is a product of a leader who wants to destroy any messenger that doesn’t say what he wants to hear.drones and mines are difficult to indirect without occupying the land in force.trump saying he’s in control of the area is untrue and ill responsible.it also makes him stupid hence the ridicule.

Many gulf states are now talking about creating their own Mecca defence alliance, due to the failure of the US to protect them.( Saudi, Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt and possibly Qatar to start off.)

If this means they will likely no longer need or want US protection, then why offer in return, access or oil, or indeed to only sell their oil in dollars?

No ships enters or leaves without Iran's permission. That's control.

If the US has full control, then why doesn't the tankers to and from other countries than Iran not enter and leave freely?

Yup donald closed it to normal shipping depriving the world access to 20% of the world’s oil supplies…..yup our navy at great expense can transit the straits of IRAN at will because we are more powerful then they are of that there’s no doubt……but shipping cannot because it’s a restricted body of water and Iran has a long coastline in which to indirect shipping.Trumps war is purely on him and it’s a fiasco of the first order it’s massive the massivest ever!!the bigglest the most expensive waste ever!!the biggest screw ups!!it’s ironic I’m my view that every time he try’s to destroy what president Obama did the more the events slap him down.hes pathetic wasteful expensive and is continuing to cause us a lot of ill will.

Correct!

My brain isn't fossilized and old and fragile.

It's young, new and flexible.

Accepting the facts as they come in every second even if they different from my feelings.

I don't rigidly cling to my past feelings thinking they're superior to the facts on the ground.

💯 Correct as usual. 😂

Not 130, not even close to 130. And I am sure all or some of them sailed through with the blessings from Iran.

Naa that’s not true we’re did I say I support Iran I do not!all stop!I do support not squandering the baby steps we were taking under Obama with the knowledge that the unpopular regime would be wary of us using the sanctions tool against them + I’m sure they probably wouldn’t have let hisbola do what they did in iseral.I also think is was a blunder to anger our erstwhile allies before hand.I could easily name more gross blunders in this ill fated mess he created.nope don’t support Iran I do support responsible mindful intelligent governance.

Iran Attacks any ships ships that Aided with the US or any other Country's that have helped The US attack Iran. The ones allowed are paying i believe and there not attacked. A question Yagoda if Trump is in full control like you say why are US Navel ships in the Med out of range of Iran drones instead of sailing up and down the straits daily protecting US interests. I think your making that up to. Provide links to your Claims or are you deliberatly spreading false info.

Which route are they taking?

Tuesday’s transits were almost entirely through the Iranian control passage:

Tuesday's tally of eight vessels fell below a 10-day average of about 12, for the lowest daily count since August 5, Kpler data showed. Only one, a coal carrier, exited the strait, while ‌the rest were still making their way through.

The seven entering all took the Iranian route.”

What now is that Trump is trying to hoodwink the people and quietly changing the main objective of the war. No more mention of the nuclear demand. He now will claim the opening of Hormuz as his victory. He would not get any negotiation on the nuclear deal and will not get Hormuz open without humiliated by the conditions. Iran is prepare to sit this out. Can Trump afford to slow-walk the opening by November?

If he (the US) has total control.........why are there not 150 ships transiting right now......it's not like they haven't been sat there waiting to go?
