By the time the Abraham Lincoln Strike Group reaches it’s home port. North Point San Diego, late September, they would of been deployed for an excess of 300 days. Their last port visit being over 200 days ago. So those Sailors and Marines have fully earned a few days on terra firma. Have a few beers and a bit of fun. I'd be willing to bet those sailors and Marines will have been told all the women have aids and all the farangs are spies. Don't talk to anyone. This is NOT yesterday's military, by a long shot. Years ago I was at a friends bar in Pattaya and it filled up with sailors of one of the carriers. In years past a good excuse for Marine against the Navy. Instead I bought a round for the Navy, in turn they paid for all my drinks and one came from a town fairly close to my old home town. At another time I began to wonder what was wrong with the Marines in town, I could tell which ones had been in the <deleted> and the new guys but none were really doing anything, no talk, no flirt with the ladies, little drinking. Later that evening I was drinking with a Marine Captain (Mustang) and his 1st shirt and asked what the hell is wrong with our guys? He told me they had been warned that any farang wanting to talk with them was a spy and all the women had aids. In this case I recon they will have been threatened and told not to speak about the mistreatment they endured aboard the Lincoln or face courts martial.

I hope they all get drunk, get laid and have a great time. Semper Fi!

I pity people in Pattaya. 5,000 sailors who just set a record for days at sea ... what a <deleted> $how this is going to be. Honestly, if I lived there, I would consider a vacation to "Anywhere but Pattaya"

On the matter of spending, the quoted estimate might be close....excluding 'take-aways" and freelancers....their secret incomes are very difficult to assess.

When US carrier groups....7-10,000 sailers,marines and others...visited Hong Kong regularly, one Mamasun I knew well laughed at the suggestion that they (gogo girls and bars) would make a fortune.

And yes, their military police kept things in order with swift, rough, justice.

Only fights were amongst the crews, not with locals.

Don't think they did/do any immigration.

Came ashore in ferry boats, dressed in "civies" and offloaded on HK Island.

USD accepted anywhere, no need to exchange money.

And all this was after the handover back to China!

Well as the 5000 crew are mostly young men and women, 70% are under 26, I am sure the wives and sweethearts will be thrilled to know their loved ones are spending few days/nights in Pattaya?....Sex capital of the world?🤣

It's always fun to watch all the people on shore leave having a good time.

I've seen it firsthand in Pattaya, in Phuket, and in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

I haven't talked to any current Navy guys recently, but I spent about six years living in the San Diego area, and that place is crawling with active and retired Navy people. And almost every one of them can tell you stories about shore leave.

Good for the local economy and small businesses as cash is coming in to town!!!

I don't doubt they had replenishments. But from where - Singapore? Also I guess that refers to replenishing the whole carrier group, not just the carrier itself.

Replenishment means underway replenishment done by Military sealift Command. Fujairah, UAE is a big spot for these USNS ships to pick up supplies for fleet as well. Point being they were most certainly replenished during the 200 day underway period.
