Was so much better when the fleet anchored directly off Pattaya Beach as I experienced in 1980 while embarked on the “Gators”. Contracted long boats ferrying us back and forth directly to the beach.

Pattaya was basically Beach Road , Walking Street and some of the side soi ‘s like 13/1/2/3/4. No need to venture any farther because nothing else existed to my knowledge.

I went there from 68-70, not much of anything there, most of the RR people went too Bangkok

By the sound of it .

There could be more bar girls in Pattaya than sailors.

Surprised Perth wasn’t on the itinerary too. Was common at one time for the fleet transiting to or from the Indian Ocean.

They won't need to worry. Any "crackdown" will be on the Beach Road girls/boys; there are no issues with the bars and gogos, which will be welcoming them (as will the girls!).

They've done this many times before. They usually keep a very low profile. You won't even really know they're about. 5000 amongst the thousands of visitors in Pattaya can easily mingle.

They stand out like sore thumbs and there are not thousands of other visitors to be seen really.

There is this joke on Thai social media for all up-country girls to pack their bags and head on to Pattaya and Bkk bars and streets.

Pattaya averages around 700,000 visitors a week. Whilst alot are domestic tourists from Bangkok and neighbouring towns, alot are also tourists from abroad.

Throwing in 5000 foreigners into a city isn't going to be a stand out as you think. They came a few years ago if i recall and no one noticed a thing.

And they usually don't want to draw attention to themselves.

In the 70's the girls in Perth were extremely welcoming to US sailors.

If you want to butt into other people’s conversations then I suggest you look at the context and try to keep up, rather than stating the bleeding obvious!

People with no knowledge and only opinion seem to think Pattaya was chosen so 5000 sailors ca get their leg over rather than the destinations you stated.

And besides, why would a ship that has been on a long deployment, whose crew need rest, the ship needs maintenance take a detour to Perth? Hardly the quickest route home is it?
