In the Middle Ages, there was a profession called a urine collector.
Every morning, people would walk through the city with a barrel, collecting urine in exchange for payment.

Urine was used to obtain ammonia, which was then used to make saltpeter for gunpowder.

Fraud soon appeared because some people diluted their urine with water in order to collect a larger payment.

To combat this fraud, the profession of urine tester arose. The tester would accompany the urine collector.

During the Early Modern Period, people learned how to produce ammonia synthetically, and both professions gradually disappeared.

Unemployed, the urine collectors and urine testers supposedly left Flanders and moved to Amsterdam, where they founded the Heineken brewery. 🤣🤣🤣
