Name things that Pattaya has that New York City doesn't

Invisible police. I venture through the logjam 4 times a week. I see 1000 traffic offences each journey; red-light runners; speedsters; helmetless riders; brainless parkers in striped boxes. What I never see are police 'serving and protecting'. Just imagine the decline in road casualties if they were visible!

Good thread!

  • Women and men partners  that a person could never get in NY

  • Nice condos that can be rented for $500

  • Cheap eats

  • Nightlife for the retired

It is a fun place but glad I left when I did. What was exciting became old and tiring. Haven't been back in years. I do miss my Thai friends and a few Expats.

Pattaya has the Dark Side, they got that going for them:

I think it is Dark because of historical lack of street lighting rather than any hidden or mysterious qualities.

New York full of loud talkers, Pattaya very small minority

Always watch out for the quiet ones.
Often complete snides.

Charismatic Pimps.

Pattaya Lacks what NYC has....

Plenty of charismatic pimps.

Time to re-watch the great film: TAXI DRIVER

This is lacking in Pattaya, unfortunately, but NYC has a surplus.

I lived in NYC in the mid 70s. I saw "Taxi Driver" in NYC. Anyway, there really were pimps like that in crazy clothes with crazy Cadillacs. I remember one of them had an entirely purple outfit and a big white Cadillac. It was sort of fun to watch the Times Square area late at night. Once in a while the cops would stop with a van and pick up a load of hookers, but for the most part the scene went on uninterrupted by the police.

Are you sure that it wasn't a Little Red corvette that the purple dressed guy had ?

In the late 60s, for sure, there were plenty of pimps riding around in PIMP-MOBILES that looked exactly like what you say.

Times Square was a madhouse, too.

Unfortunately, Times Square changed for the worse, probably due to a few lousy do-gooder mayors, or something.

Pattaya has;

-Little cultural value. NY has the best of the arts with museums, theater, clubs, and music venues. Pattaya offers Filipinos and burnt out Englishman singing 1970's cover songs.

-Pattaya's cuisine is mostly low end. NYC offers a wide range of restaurants and foods, including some of the world's best restaurants.

- larger rats and cockroaches

-more asians 😁, fewer blacks

-more visible trafficking of women and vulnerable youth for the sex trade

-less effective and efficient public transit

-poor quality EMS

-a lower capability to control high rise fires

-less of a social net for those who are mentally ill, impoverished or in need of help

-better quality 7-11s

-less violent crime

-poor sanitation with inadequate waste sewage treatment. Pattaya Bay is dirty, NY's Hudson River is nearly restored

- Inconvenient international airport access. NYC has 3 major airports all in easy reach

Giuliani "cleaned up" Times Square. Now it's probably not so much fun. Except to go to the JFK airport, I haven't been in NYC since 2001, and that was only for a few days in Soho. I didn't even bother with Times Square.

NYC has Columbia University.

NYC does have better pizza, but it's not worth living there just to get to that pizza.

WOW, FROG.....

IMHO....you have never spoken a truer word to the TV Forum.

I agree 100-Percent.

I have, therefore, put NYC Pizza totally behind me, and have....INSTEAD....

Opted for a Better Quality of Life.

Just how many free frogs have you seen hopping about in NYC?

And, back in the day, about 10 years ago, we could hear the sounds of frogs and toads in Chiang Mai.

BUT I WILL TELL YOU.....

THE SOUNDS OF THOSE FROGS IN CHIANG MAI are no more.....

DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM SAYING?

Our environment is rapidly deteriorating here.....

No more Fing Frogs.......SO SAD.....My Friend.....

but.....

Nobody seems to care about the frogs, which, when they go, then we are soon to follow......

We are DYING......My Friend....

We are Dying......for sure...even though.....most of humans are to stupid to remark about this change......

GOOD LORD, save the Frogs, because.....for sure...WE ARE DYING.....

GOOD LORD.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our Frogs are Dying.......

And, we will pay the price, and be next.........
