Posting inane YouTube videos with some tenuous connection to the topic doesn't help the conversations.

Imagine you're in a real pub having a lively debate with your mates, and one of them says "here's a video vaguely related to our discussion, let's all sit and watch it".

Nobody is interested in your choice of videos, give it a rest.

This has been tried before.

No-one seems much interested in constructive topics.

Even interesting topics are of not much interest, here.

Therefore, business as usual:

a. destructive topics

b. uninteresting topics, mostly about bar girls, and such

HERE is something of interest, for the TV Members....something about black holes, which, at least for a few here, are very interesting.....

Over the past month, astronomers announced the discovery of a brand-new type of cosmic object called a "black hole star," which is powered by an active, feeding black hole instead of standard nuclear fusion. [1]

The "Black Hole Star" Discovery

  • The Scale: These unique objects are roughly the size of an entire solar system.

  • The Power Source: Instead of fusing hydrogen in a core, a gas-wrapped feeding black hole provides the radiant energy.

  • The Significance: Reported in mid-August 2026, this concept may solve the mystery behind the "Little Red Dots" previously detected by deep-space observatories in the early universe. [1]

Here is an image of a Black Hole Star:

image.png

So, anyone here willing to share their images of their black holes?

I thought not.

Nobody is interested in new discoveries.

THIS IS WHY, maybe, the Pub is getting stale.

This is not a joke.

This is straight from MIT......

My guess is that nobody here is interested.

I've heard of a Black Hole Sun, a lot lately

In which case why do you post your cr@p here? It can never be described as entertaining, except to you!

I see you've taken it upon yourself to speak for others. Speak for yourself, not for me. I enjoy a lot of what GG posts. A few other members have indicated that they enjoy it too. If you don't like it, just scroll on by. Think of it as flipping through cannels on the TV. If you come across one you don't like, keep flipping. No need to call the TV station, or run to social media to complain.

Youtube literally has millions of channels.

Even Netflix has more films and TV shows that anyone can watch in a lifetime.

So yes, I basically agree. Just avoid channels you don't like. Simple as that.

Millions of people won't stop posting content you don't like any time soon.

Trump's tweets get on a lot of people's nerves. It won't stop him.

If I’m fully honest, he has pretty much derailed this entire topic without showing any self restraint and filled it with a steady stream of childish, clumsy and unintelligible posts, demonstrating a marked absence of self control or consideration for anyone else reading the thread. On top of that, he’s added at least five video links that appear to have little or nothing to do with the subject. It is difficult to understand what anyone could possibly gain from filling a thread with such immature, uninteresting and unrelated material.

The result of acts like this is that the original topic becomes increasingly difficult to follow, and the people who are returning to the topic hoping to read follow up posts remotely relevant to the OP are left having to work their way through multiple layers of incoherent gibberish. It’s difficult to see this as anything other than disrespectful to other readers and the forum community as a whole.

To sum it up as politely as possible, I find the whole approach completely distasteful. If I had the ability to do so myself, I’d probably revoke his posting privileges from the site and show him the door. At some point, when someone repeatedly demonstrates such little ability to self filter, such little regard for the subject being discussed or respect for the intelligence and maturity of the other people reading, some form of moderation would seem entirely appropriate.

Not so much on AN, folks here seem unaware although there was one thread but of course immediately haters popped up.

One fool said no better than thousands of garage bands in the USA.

Folks that habitually post videos, pictures and ai quotes to make their case typically lack the mental fortitude to put in a little effort to spell it out themselves, personally never look at it or consider it and just assume that the individual isn’t very bright to begin with.

So, has the Community Pub simply gone through a quiet spell, or have the glory days of good yarns, clever leg pulls, arguments, strange ideas and completely off the wall conversations finally been relegated to the rearview mirror?

Easiest thing in the world to remove problem posters and trolls.

You just click the moderate before publish button on the posters control panel.

Then their posts get bulk published/declined once or twice a day.

Simple!

The only reason the forum doesn't do this is because those posters are very profitable, clicks make money. Essentially they exist because forum management wants them to exist.

Privately funded forums, doen't have problem posters!

Always amusing to see problem posters starting threads complaining about other problem posters though.

I think you’re spot on. It’s really a form of window dressing: when there isn’t much of substance to contribute, the material gets dressed up with links, images, AI-generated commentary and other borrowed content to create the appearance of something more substantial.

But all of that material doesn’t necessarily add up to a contribution. At some point, you’re no longer participating in a discussion; you’re simply filling the space with noise. It’s rather like putting an enormous amount of effort into wrapping a gift box, only to discover there’s nothing inside.

That's what we call "overegging the pudding". Anyone who is offended by GG's posts has the option to use the Ignore function. Et voila!

If they want to discuss the subject matter, they could do so, but trying to blame them for the demise of the Community Pub is patently ridiculous.

If it's dead, it's because the people who kept the fires burning, are no longer posting.

When you get the most boring/banal people taking over, it's hardly a surprise that you are left with boring/banal content.

Now you want to get rid of the eccentrics? Who will be left? Just miserable haters? Look at yourselves, all chomping at the bit, looking for someone else to blame

ANother former/current troll joins under a 'new' identity!

ANother quick cure to stop new trolls.

All new members get "moderate before publish" set on their accounts for their first two months of membership.

Is that you GammaGobulin?

That member you so adore has a tendency to post a lot of unrelated nonsense and a lot of it is confused trash that overloads a topic and tries to change it. That is the definition of being disruptive.

As I wrote earlier, all we'll be left with will be the miserable haters. No useful content, just expressions of their inner hatred.

It might be that it is related, but that the poster is all too aware of upsetting the 'powers that be'. Goes over the heads of most of you anyway.

Thank for for demonstrating exactly what I meant. A core of hateful posters thinking that they own the forum and should decide who posts.

Well, more like the word "community" has run its course, same as in real life.

I would agree there's a lot of nonsense, but all the whiners that can't simply scroll by remind me of snowflakes triggered by microaggressions. Put on your big boy pants.

Have a look at the profiles of the worst complainers and check under the setting: Topics Started.

Most will be a big fat ZERO.

Then look at their posting history. Mostly hate directed at someone or the other. Those cretins seem to think that they should control who posts.

I don't agree with a lot of what GG writes, but they should be free to post as we are free to rebut/reject/ignore.

The title of this song is based on an error.

The author of the song got mixed up.

When the TV told him Black Hole Star, he misheard the name of the object as Black Hole Sun.

I guess he has no aptitude for the study of the universe.

Views change.

But at least I understand what I post.....(I think)....

This topic isn’t about black holes, rock bands, dental work, or any of the other ancillary garbage you’ve dumped into this thread.

The fact that you’ve simply ignored the overall discussion taking place here with such thick skinned indifference and carried on obliviously regardless is frankly astonishing. Your shamelessness is truly becoming quite something.

Why not just start another three or four of your usual daily rambling topics of your own instead? Or is the problem that nobody is bothering to even read them anymore, so you’ve decided to insert your same stream of tangential nonsense into a topic that people are actually reading? If that’s the strategy, it certainly would explain a lot.

I'd be more concerned he's created a new (and seemingly more rational) account to fight this side.

So you agree that the poster spews a lot of nonsense and you admit that you like it. I can only imagine what kind of nonsense conversations you carry on with outside of this forum in your social circles. People like gamma are bared from attending any of the social circles I hang with, immature nonsense isn’t allowed.
