Cost Of Transporting Scooter To Uk?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know the rough price to transport a scooter back home to the UK?? I saw a very good deal on a moped which I would definitely take advantage of if I knew i could take it home when I leave next year.

Will it meet the regulations on emissions?

hmm not too sure, dont know about the regulations for shipping roadworthy goods? any info on it??

You will find all the info you need if you do a search of the motoring section

Apart from shipping and import duty which looks like the easy part you will need to register it unless you can convince HMR&C & DLVC you and the bike will be in the UK for less than 6 months.

To register a vehicle you will need the following documents to be submitted to the DVLA local office, photocopies are not acceptable, translations???

· completed application form V55/4 (for new vehicles) or V55/5 (for used vehicles) a £50.00 registration fee (if applicable)

· the required fee for the licence

· a current British certificate of insurance

· foreign registration document and any other papers you have relating to the vehicle

· evidence showing the date the vehicle was collected (normally the invoice from the supplier)

· evidence of type approval (a certificate of confomaty to European directives/standards) or a MSVA (Single Vehicle Aproval) inspection £47 Mopeds / £74 Motorbikes

· the appropriate HM Revenue and Customs form HM Revenue and Customs forms required to register an imported vehicle

· a current British MOT test certificate (if applicable)

· a declaration of newness V267 (if applicable). The V267 is available for download from the vehicle forms link below or a DVLA local office.

· documentation confirming your name and address (a list of acceptable identity documentation can be found on the link below)

Best to look at the following website:

Sarah the bike would have to be virtually free for it to be worth the hassle of taking it to the UK. As well as the cost of the shipping you then have to pay import duty to the assesed value of the bike, you then have to have it certified roadworthy for the UK roads etc etc etc. A small scooter at home would probably work out as cheap as the one you are loking at here. Or buy it, run it and sell it when you leave. If you look after it and service it you wont loose a lot if any. Cheers Dunc :o

You could always try to get sponsorship and ride it back, or try breaking it into 1000 peices and put some in your luggage and post the rest home!

What year is it ? if older than 10 years its a piece of cake, no sva needed, emissions wont matter, tricky but do able on a newer one,.

Sorry but there is a lot of mis advice on here, i imported 17 containers of bikes into the uk and its easy, you are not taxed on assesed value but declared/purchase price ( unless you mark it down stupidly ) if the bike is over 10 years old sva does not apply, you just get an mot on the frame number and go with that to your local dvla along with the c+e receipts for duty paid and if you have a reg from overseas you will be granted an age related plate, if you dont you will get a "Q' .People are importing shedloads of vehicles/bikes from thaland, all vigos in the uk are from thailand, bikes have small profit margins if done in small numbers but if its a personal purchase just weigh up if its going to be worth it, you may find you can buy one in the uk for less or similar taking into account the costs involved of exporting/importing

It is generally possible to ship used vehicles from Thailand to the UK. As for the taxation in the UK I'm not sure but can find it out for you.

We are in the shipping business. :o

Some friends of mine were importing CBR150's converting them to 125cc for the UK market and still making a decent profit.

coincidentally I had several bike enquiries in the last week for the UK (bike season, isn't it? :o )

Whether new or old, import duties in the UK are 8% for over 250 cc and 6% for under 250 cc.
