Realistically, this is a silly question. Why? Because no one one a social media forum such as AseanNow uses anything but an avatar and a made up name. Without a real name, you're not going to get a real face unless you personally have linked your picture to a forum post or as an avatar picture.

No, that´s not the general reason people hide their identity online. Sure, some people here and everywhere else might do it for that reason. The regular reason is usually only to protect privacy, family etc.........

It's one think having your face and name on a website or whatnot, and quite another to have your face tied to an account on a chat-board when any number of members are spewing hate daily, particularly given there is a reasonable chance of being recognized in such a small community.

Incidentally, this same topic came up 15-20 years ago on another board I frequent. One member "proudly" posted his name and address and was sorry for it.

I dont need to hide from anyone, my face is visible on the internet & I am known world wide in my field, even been flown to countries to do talks etc, I am open about everything I do so have no need to hide myself, only those that push BS agendas and hate need to hide their face

On AN, I indeed do use an avatar. That's simply down to nostalga - I used a 'gonk' avatar on ThaiVisa since 2003...., but it's got nothing to do with anonymity - I use my real photo on my Facebook account.

Why would that heppen unless you had upset someone. No-one should give a flying fig about you and your family, unless you've done somthing to upset them or you are just plain paranoid!

Not true. It was built by Italian-Thai, and is operated by a Japanese consortium (I taught English to the ATC and ground staff at the airport - a good reason to avoid flying there lol!)
