Anutin orders faster deportations of foreign offenders

Featured Replies

Granted the Thai constitution refers to protections for Thai citizens and not to traditional democratic "we the people" but -

All lot of contradictions in Anutin's proposals seem to exacerbate further Thai xenophobia.

"local people" are any nationality or only Thais? I expect only Thais is intended.

keeping offending foreigners in Thailand for legal proceedings could leave the authorities responsible for food, water and accommodation, whereas deportation would remove them from the country.

So prosecution and trial is made irrelevant in order to avoid costly humanitarian support for the foreign alleged defendant being held in detention? This goes beyond even the so-called Thai-styled democracy (meaning not Western-styled democracy).

The amount of money in the envelopes for the Russian takeover of Phuket in the last 15 years is hilarious. Businesses, visas, land titles.......the rich avoiding the Ukraine call up, easy baht for local officials

There seem to be a lot of Anutin apologists on this thread, but where is the crackdown on Thai officials who are accepting that money? It seems as if all emphasis is being put on crimes being committed by foreigners, which takes the onus off of the PM to go after Thais that are engaging in human trafficking, drug running, and a multitude of other serious crimes.

You have to take it in context. Anutin's context was that of foreigners establishing foreigner-only religious centers and foreigner-only cemeteries, here in Thailand, where native Thais are excluded. Or for that matter, establishing any institution here in Thailand that rejects or excludes native Thais.
His point was that foreigners are in Thailand. If they want special religious centers and special cemeteries located in Thailand that are exclusively for special foreigners, then "they should go die back home."

As someone who is Theravada Buddhist and plans to have a simple Thai Buddhist send-away, I've got to agree.

Perhaps Anutin will actually do something beneficial for Thailand, for once in his sorry life. He could create a new specialty, psychic doctors.

The cemetery was a zoning and licensing issue - it was never a foreigner vs local issue. If it had been a Thai cemetery, it too will be removed but this did not happen because Thai cremates their dead. In any event, I am beginning to see Anutin's frustration and him breaking into irresponsible and immature comments serving only his political base and enraging all the long term foreign residents. He should not complicate matters.

I'm a long-term foreign resident, and to be honest, Anutin's comments make 100% sense to me, especially when you understand that your Thai neighbors, and your own Thai family for that matter, are highly nationalistic. Anutin is protecting Thai society and Thai culture. And why not? Take a look to the West where "nationalism" is now considered to be just short of a crime. What do you get? Countries who cultural identities are being dismantled by their own leaders. Anutin knows what the West is like, and as a Thai leader, he wants to protect his country from the same type of cultural demise. Thailand does not want to be assimilated into the Borg-hive-mind of Western liberal democracy.

I agree with nationalistic Thais including Anutin: "Thailand for Thais!" His message isn't "we want foreigners to leave," his message is "we want foreigners to respect Thai culture and values if they chose to live here, and obey Thai laws."

What is difficult to understand about that? 🤔 Well, unless you consider yourself to be a special foreigner who believes that Thais need to defer to your special foreigner status and needs. You're not in Kansas anymore Toto - or New York, or London, or Berlin. If you expect Thailand to treat you as a special foreigner with special needs that are exclusive of native Thais, it's time to pack up and take that attitude back to your home country. Don't ya think? thumbsup

Hell Yeah! I like this guy! Out with the pack!

Thailand has tens of thousands of long‑term retirees, and every province is full of older expats who’ve bought homes, married locally, and contributed to the community for decades.

If the goal was to reassure people, then telling residents they’re welcome to spend, invest, and retire here — but not to die here — probably isn’t the winning message he thinks it is!

Agree he is just building on his hate fot foreigners which he displayed years ago when he blamed foreigners for the Covid 19 problems in Thailand.

Obviously Anutin doesn't read the AseanNow forum, 'eh? glare

I'm really happy Thailand is finally getting the courage to do this. Way past due.

Thank you Mr. Anutin!

Now lets send all those bastards back to where they belong!

I guess the "private cemetaries" pis-ed them off and has ruined it for all of us now.

They won't even let us die here.

Ouch! Anutin wins the annual award for political incorrectness. I think what he means is get cremated or send the body back home for burial. This makes sense when taken in context that foreigners can not own land.

Yes, I guess "special private cemetary" is perceived as segregation and elitist.

Maybe it has to do with their religious beliefs that they don't want to be buried next to any non-orthodox believer in Talmud, but it didn't go over well with the Thais.

It's good that Anutin made this formal announcement so now it's abundantly clear what the protests were about and the type of behavior they don't tolerate.

Agree 100%. Creating foreigner-only religious centers and foreigner-only cemeteries is completely unacceptable. Foreigner displaying signs barring Thais from establishments should be deported immediately. There is no room for these "I'm better than you" foreigners.

The blame game culture is on full tilt nowadays in Thiland.

Well done Mr. Anutin on adding to the fire.

I agree with a lot of what you say - you don't see boatloads of illegal immigrants rolling up on the beaches here!

One of the things that spoiled his rhetoric was his tasteless comment about not dying here - merely confirmed that he hates farangs anyway.

I interpet the 'not die here, die in home country' comment, more to, if die here, TH, have money or insurance to pay for you hospital bill. Stop stiffing hospitals for your care, or after your demise.

Would think as many things, taken out of context, or lost in translation. I kind of like the PM, as enforcing the law and cleaning house is always a good thing.

Whether by his foreigner bias, or just wanting people to follow the rule of laws, which certainly isn't asking too much of any 'guest'.

You come to my house, it's my rules, or, don't let the door hit you on the way out. Every country should be the same.

Most want guest, immigrants to follow the laws in their home country, why is Thailand bad for enforcing theirs.

No, that's not true.

Because the Chabad folks were bringing in a lot of money.

It's the opposite. Money will only get you so far.

It's not because you invest a lot of money that you can do whatever you want.

If you buy anything in Thailand, you pay a 7% Value Added Tax. Everyone who is a consumer purchase goods in Thailand supports the Thai tax base.

Personally I don't like the guy, but are you reading it correctly.

When it says " go back home and die " prior to that statement he is referring to a case where a particularly religion wants to have a cememtsry site for just a particular religion for example like " Jewish only " this isn't meant to say in general if you are a foreign go home to die.

Funny, although it is Thailand I reference this article everything being said is like Make Thailand Great again!

His wish is the same as Trumps and every country in this earth?

I've been here 20 years as a foreigner I don't have a problem with anything being said!

I see from your number of posts that presumably you live here, so I am surprised that you do not seem to realise that in the majority of cases, if you invest a lot of money you CAN do whatever you want. (And by "investing" that covers brown paper bags as well!)

It is possible that the go home to die thing may have lost something in translation, and or may be missing some context/

I have no doubt that Anutin, much like the majority of Thais, is highly nationalistic. And I'd agree with you, remembering his "Ai Farang" (translated to essentially "Ai" (expletive) "Farang" (foreigners of European descent)) back when tourist refused to accept and don masks when he was handing them out in Bangkok back during the Covid scare. Anutin is no fan of foreigners.

However..............

Some AN members are twisting themselves like contortionists to make this quote:
"Referring to a recent request to establish a private cemetery, he said: 'If they are going to die, they should go die back home, not here.'"
Sound like it means:
"All foreigners should go home to die."
When he actually meant that:
"If you need your own private cemetery in which only those of a certain foreign ethnicity and/or foreign religious affiliation can be interned, then (explicit) either go home to die or (implied) ship your body back to your home country."

And that makes sense. Foreigners can't own land, so a cemetery for foreigners only is either foreigner own or Thai nominee owned - both situations are against Thai law. And as a nationalist, he is going to balk at any situation where businesses or institutions established in Thailand, overtly exclude native Thais from entering their businesses or taking part in their institution.
