There was fighting on Thai soil, initially Thai forces against the Japanese in the first few days of landing. Later the Brits sent Indian Army troops into Thailand and ended up fighting Thai border forces. And it didn't end there. Once Op Krohcol continued deeper into Thailand, it fought the Japanese at The Ledge, on the road towards Betong. The British force suffered more than 200 casualties before withdrawing Its all in the RAF's chronicles of the ops Malaya/Thailand.

Questionable. Very.

Thais will always go with whoever they think is the big boss / who they believe is more likely to win.

Very predictable once you understand this.

In many cases there's even more money to made when foreigners are forced to leave in a hurry.

Use your imagination.

I agree, but history shows Thailand, and the Thai's, like to slowly bleed out foreigners of their money. 😂

they are throwing a few wrong'uns out I don't see the problem

The problem is / will be that Thai's can / will make false allegations whereby the foreigner will either pay up or be charged and deported, and authorities can / will hold deportation over an individual for a corrupt payment.

For what it's worth, I think the PM's crackdown is a legitimate attempt to try to restore Thailand's reputation. Nobody wants poor-quality expats spoiling it for the rest of us and any expat operating illegally is a poor-quality expat to me.

Let's keep it all above board, where I hope everyone reading this is operating, and it will be better for us all in the long run.

There are very few poor quality expats spoiling it "for the rest of us" just maybe a handful of long term "tourists" in the usual Phuket ghetto Those abusing the the property / business/ nominee regs are a different matter and are not generally found fighting in the streets with their shirts off or sticking murdered prostitutes into suitcases

There has always been the possibility of corrupt officials making life difficult for people here but how many times has it ever actually happened to you ? In my experience corrupt officials have only ever made thing easier for me , for a reasonable price of course.

There will be few deported who do not fully deserve it, so stop worrying, Just try not to pi$$ people off is the best course of action, but I can understand it will be difficult for some on here

What reputation would that be, exactly?

I;m a tourist - they're fine with me but u long stayers may want to think things through wrt where this is headed

Really ?? As a tourist you might also need to start to think things through too. Afterall Its the "tourists" who form the majority of trouble makers , and the riskiest part for you lot is when you arrive at the airport and present yourself to immigration. Something I've not done for years and have little intention of doing again any time soon

Do genuine "tourists" waste their time on here ? I don't think so , and you do seem to have been here a long time for a genuine "tourist" , its you who needs to keep your fingers crossed when applying for you e-visa, as well as in the immigration queue

I wouldn't be so smug if I was you

I'm on a retirement visa / extension here. I view it for EXACTLY what it is, nothing more than a 12 month tourist visa that can be extended in country. It gives me no more rights than someone on a 30 day visa exempt stamp, except for I can have a 5 year driving / riding license, and people on a 30 day visa exempt can only get a 2 year license.

Without a reasonable pathway to PR / citizenship, we are all just tourists here.

The main thing will be how consistently these instructions are actually enforced. Targeting foreigners who are genuinely breaking the law is one thing, but the authorities still need clear evidence and proper procedures in each case. For people living and working legally in Thailand, I’d imagine the biggest concern is whether the tougher enforcement creates unnecessary uncertainty or inconsistent treatment between provinces.

The only consistent thing in Thailand is corruption.

These deportation laws are just another revenue stream to be exploited by authorities.
