Three UK jobs to Thailand: 'I finally have a life'

Sometimes when a law is so ridiculous, and so lacking in practical meaning and functionality, it absolutely must be ignored and it's incumbent upon us to resist the nonsense.

I understand your frustration and viewpoint, but is that really a practical approach? You cannot actually expect to prevail in a situation where you are a foreigner on a temporary visa and without any other legal status in the country. Ignoring or resisting the laws of a country where you are a guest, and where your right to remain can easily be revoked and potentially result in deportation, is unlikely to end well.

I agree that she is not taking work away from locals or directly competing with them, but I do not think that is the only consideration from a legal perspective. The law states that foreigners working in Thailand need legal permission to work. If you come to Thailand and stay on a visa that does not provide permission to work, and then you work anyway, you are effectively breaking the law.

I understand that some of the restrictions on what foreigners can and cannot do in Thailand may seem excessive. However, it has been that way for as long as I've been here and I think that as foreigners, we have to accept that those are the rules. If we disagree with them, there is not much we can realistically do other than comply with them or choose to live somewhere else. The other option is to ignore them and accept the associated risks, which some people do, but often things don't turn out in their favor.

Good for her if it works out in her field of work. She could always return if it doesn’t work out or try other parts of Asia , experiencing different cultures is good I feel for personal growth! Adventurous!

In my case, as an ex professional, I would have never left the UK at an early age because in my field of work the training and experience I gained there was priceless. I am gaining the rewards of that experience in my retirement years in Chiang Mai. Money is important of course, I did some work in the Middle East to bump up my retirement funds and the cost of living has to be considered.

But I guess it’s all about each Individual and their priorities!

If she was my daughter I would say go for it!

She can’t legally work online the way she is on a tourist visa or any other non immigrant visa without a work permit. A business visa also requires legitimate local employment and a work permit. Thailand also does not offer a passive, low income residency route for people under 50 without substantial investment, legitimate local employment, or a specialized remote worker visa such as the Destination Thailand Visa, which requires proof of specific financial thresholds.

She could be on a one year student visa, but she would still be prohibited from working. It’s anyone’s guess. She may possibly be using an agent to obtain some form of one year visa, but that would still not make her employment legal.

The worst thing for a foreigner to do, if they’re working online in a gray area like that, is to draw attention to themselves by becoming the subject of an attention grabbing news story like this.

Published pieces like these can eventually attract the attention of local law enforcement, potentially resulting in authorities being forced to take action to prevent others from thinking that this kind of activity is acceptable in Thailand.

She would have been much better off keeping her mouth closed, keeping her head down, and staying off the radar instead of engaging in all this self promotion. I think young people who try to sustain themselves online through social media often don’t understand that.

I agree, but the question still remains, "What visa is she on????"

The TikTok gym bimbo visa of course.

And when that visa finishes, she can apply for a Thai cooking visa. 😂

The news articles about her featured in UK media outlets (like The Mirror and Manchester Evening News) and republished across Thai expat news platforms do not explicitly state the specific type of visa she holds. But The Mirror does say that she's learning Thai in CM. I'm guessing she's on an education visa, which would be her easiest and cheapest option, but does not make her legal to work in Thailand. Legally she should be on a Destination Thailand Visa if she wants to work, but based on the fact that she was working three jobs, just to make ends meet before coming to Thailand, there's a good chance that she couldn't afford to meet the financial requirements to acquire a DTV. I'm placing the probability at least at 80% that she's on an ED visa.

which you would have seen if you had read my next post...bill hencike is the american i was trying to remember...per google he did very very well but no mention of him being involved in 7 11....he owns lots of companies and hotels and even got thai citizenship and is likely the american that has and does make more $$ in thailand than any other american.

Yes, I did see your following post but only after I'd responded to your original post. Excuse me for not reading the entire thread before responding but your having to correct yourself with a follow-up post was down to you, not me.

So victory I guess on the AQI levels, which just means more people moving to CM in the future. 😄

I'm not so sure.

Da Nang is the new CM. More ppl moving there, despite the 90 day border runs, than to CM now.

CM could be paradise in a few more years if the AQ continues to improve and nomads keep avoiding it because 'bad air.'

Is that similar to the Instagram gym butt shots, only and with a Linktree to her OnlyFans, visa?

The only thing that is questionable here, is if you live in the past or if you are updated with the opportunities available today? Like it sounds, this 23 year old woman seems to have more knowledge of opportunities than you have. FYI, she might have been running her online business for about 3 years already.

Also, what do you mean with questionable activities? Is that something living in your mind because the old guard sets in. Maybe you can grasp how a work where you don´t lift heavy things or physically sits in an office qualify as a source of income? If so, then you are just 30 years back in time.

While you have been standing still, the rest of the world evolved. You know, many of the jobs that where on location are today on remote basis. Take these for example:

Graphic Designer, Video Editor, Virtual Assistant, Content Creator, Life Coach, Editor/Writer/Press Release, Print on Demand, Podcasting, Selling Digital Products, Drop shipping, Affiliation, Social Media Manager, Developer, SEO/AIO/GEO, Day Trading, Swing Trading.

So if you are running your own business/gig or work remotely there are much that never touch questionable activities. Just because you can´t understand that, it doesn´t make it questionable.

Let´s take some examples, you might find strange, but I know for a fact that millions of people around the world are living a very good and comfortable life doing one or more activities on these websites: Youtube, Fiverr, Upwork, Amazon Kindle, Fine Art America, Cracked, Listverse, Dotdash, Knowledgenuts, Etsy, Merch by Amazon, Neighbor, OfferUp, FluidTruck, Turo, Airbnb and that is just a taste of the online world of opportunities. Time to wake up and live in the right century, man.

In your haste to lecture me, you have run off a list of occupations that do not apply to this person. She is uneducated and of limited financial means. Her previous employment was; salon barber, care assistant, administrative clerk, and online fitness coach. These are low wage jobs, which is why she was working multiple jobs.

I use the term questionable because I doubt very much that this woman had the financial wherewithall to set up a legally compliant compliant company that had the appropriate work/employment visas. You assume she is more aware of employment opportunities in Thailand than I am. Ok, so what? The fact is that she is basically selling emotional support services; Helping women build confidence, lose body fat, and create a lifestyle they can maintain for life. Through personalised coaching, expert guidance, and unwavering support, I'll help you become the strongest, healthiest, and most confident version of yourself. Perhaps she sees herself as the new Richard Simmons. I don't know, but her website doesn't appear to get much traffic. Domain including subdomains Organic traffic-0, Traffic value -$0 Maybe you know, since you appear to be very hip with the kids today.

Come to think of it, you know who you remind me of? This guy. He was always keeping up with market trends, adapting himself to the changes in society. Is this your inspiration? If you get a latex outfit like Lee, you can start a web channel and dispense your advice.

Wow! Your a funny guy! By the way, who use the word "hip" today......??? 😂

The thing, you know, is that she can do more than 1 thing. She might also have coaching sessions online. Maybe she have a Youtube channel. For that, if she don´t point her work at Thai´s, she will not need any company setup nor work permit. The only thing she will need is a DTV and she can work online outside of Thailand.

However, her Youtube site is trash. Anyway, she might have other qualities. Maybe Onlyfans like someone already posted

What were her three jobs ?

As a self proclaimed expert prone to lecturing others, I am surprised that you now consider Only Fans as an acceptable form of employment. It would most certainly be a questionable form of employment if someone was engaged in Only Fans activity within Thailand. Thailand treats Only Fans websites that present imagery of genitalia, suggestive sexual acts and naked bodies as pornography. We have already seen the Thai government come down hard on Thai nationals who posted relatively mild "soft porn" images. The Thai Criminal Code aka Penal Code (ประเทศไทยทางอาญา พ.ศ. รหัส 2499) criminalizes the creation, possession, and dissemination of “obscene materials.” The Act on Computer Crime B.E. 2550 ( พระราชบัญญัติว่าด้วยการกระทำความผิดเกี่ยวกับคอมพิวเตอร์ พ.ศ.) goes further and criminalizes electronic activities such as websharing, uploading and hosting of pornography.

Having a DTV does not make any form of online activity legal. Thailand has general conduct and public order requirements set out under multiple Thai laws. If the online activity contravenes or goes against the spirit of the laws, a visa can be canceled. A criminal verdict need not be obtained for a visa to be revoked. Visas are administrative permissions to enter and where stated, work in Thailand.
