Is cannabis actually addictive?

Featured Replies

On a slight tangent, here...I saw an article which said that although some people think cannabis is the gateway drug, actually alcohol is.

I use it only for sleep,as an edible because i can't stand the taste of smoke.

It really helps me a lot and i can stay away from pills.

Yes i stopped a few times and it keeps me awake for a few nights,so now i basically use it every day.

It's not the kind of dosage forms but chemical ingredients.

So, there is no difference in taking a pill, chewing cannabis or make an infuse.

It's still the same chemical.

So, if you think about a "pill" consider the ingredients "Melatonin" for example. Your own body produces it but in older age not sufficient enough.

More than 30% of cannabis users are addicted. Are you?

1 out of 10 have addictions to cannabis and 1 out of 3 for regular users is more accurate. With anything that can cause addiction, the younger it's started the higher chance of becoming addicted. The longer a person waits to try weed, the lesser their chances of developing an addiction to it. It's still about will power and your lifestyle and how you take care of yourself that opens the chance for addictive behaviors or not having them.

So the same as most on AN then.

It's even worse if you don't have weed as an excuse.

The only certainty is that 99.9% of those warning about the dangers of cannabis have never ever smoked it themselves, they also drink alcohol regularly.

Cannabis is not physically addictive, however like everything else , from water to masturbation, there is a possibility of "psychological addiction" which by its very definition means its an imaginary addiction

Also just like any other activity, indulging in it at regular times increases the chances of it possibly becoming a habit again totally different than a physical addiction

The potential for cannabis addiction is all in the mind , and surprisingly, mostly in the minds of those who have never ever used it, many of whom are addicted to alcohol

Go figure !

ignore him pal, just another non user who becomes a medical expert on cannabis forums, I am generally a good sleeper but from the very rare times I have suffered a sleepless night I can well imagine what a pain insomnia must be ,

I would imagine any substance used to overcome that unpleasant condition has the potential to become habit forming, cannabis is certainly no worse than any other substance , and just because a substance is produced naturally by the body, does not mean increasing the amount artificially is necessarily harmless or a good Idea, testosterone being a good example !

If cannabis works for you and improves your life then embrace it and be happy , Whatever happens in terms of legislation you are certainly eligible to obtain legal medical cannabis using a prescription.

If you do change to medical use there will be 4 consequences 3 negative and 2 positives and one neutral , I'll list the positives first-:

1) All negative comments from non users will cease immediately

2) Any listed negative side effects will immediately disappear including the fictional possibility of addiction

the neutral

1) there will be no change whatsoever to the cannabis you obtain, it will be exactly the same as what you smoke now !

and the negative

1) the price will increase significantly possibly by over 1000% ( based on the 6bt / gram I pay for my "recreational" weed )

2) depending on where you live obtaining it may require some additional travelling

3) Forms will need to be filled in
