Has anyone considered growing agave?

the big aqua colored succulent grows in many places in northern mexico for .....you guessed it - tequila. The roots are fermented.

I don't drink fermented sugar drinks, but just thought I'd toss it out there if someone was interested. The Mexicans grow them about 2 meters on center, and the soil can be poor, sandy and dry.

In case you're wondering, agave hail from the Americas. So do all cacti, though there are many succulents that are indigenous to other parts of the world.

Does anyone know about growing aloe in Thailand? ....for its mucousy sap, useful for cosmetics and (in the States, anyway) some health nuts drink it for nutritional effects. I have some aloe vera here on my land which are 2 ft wide - though usually they grow to about half that size.
