Apart from all the other trees on our farm, it seems we have "grape" trees, these 4 trees have just started producing small red/black berries, Mrs tells me that we can make wine from these, there name, MAK HOW, well, thats how i hear it, to me, they resemble the english hawthorn berry, Mrs is selling these on the market for 11bht a kilo, the darker the berry the sweeter it is to eat, and nice too, are the wines from Nong Khai made with these berries, or from ground coffe and Sherry, it certainly tastes like it,

The best Thai wine ive had is from Loei province, any respone on how to make wine from these little berries appreciated, and below is a link to Thai wines, Cheers, Lickey..

It sounds to me like it could be something from the makok family of plants. Take a look at this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elaeocarpus .

The wife and 2 workers said what you have described is a Mah Wah tree. Around here they eat the berries with salt and dried chiles before they are ripe. Nobody knew about making wine from it.

Can you post a picture of the "grape tree"?

Sorry i havent got back to you both, been very busy with a visa thing, but they really are the size of an english hawthorn berry, starting off very light red and the real sweet ones are almost black, and 50% stone inside, Mrs insists can make wine but not sure how, will do a search on Hawthorn Wine now and keep you posted,

Cheers Lickey.
