Politics Bhumjaithai Given Days to Hand Back Interior Ministry

Picture courtesy of Naewna BANGKOK – The Pheu Thai Party, leading the current coalition, has issued a firm directive to its coalition partner, Bhumjaithai, to relinquish the coveted Interior Portfolio. This ultimatum comes with a tight deadline, wherein the second-largest coalition partner must comply within days or face expulsion from the government coalition. Under the direction of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and influenced by her father, Thaksin Shinawatra, the Pheu Thai Party has resolved to reassert control over the Interior Portfolio. Yesterday, Paetongtarn chaired a critical meeting with Pheu Thai MPs and executive board members at the party’s headquarters to solidify this decision. In an attempt to balance this power play, Pheu Thai has proposed a swap. Bhumjaithai is being offered the Public Health Portfolio along with a ministerial position in the Prime Minister’s Office. This offer strategically places Bhumjaithai's titular leader, Anutin Charnvirakul, back in familiar territory, as he previously led the public health sector in a prior administration. Anutin has recently eased his steadfast stance on holding the Interior Portfolio. He has suggested a comprehensive cabinet reshuffle to impact all coalition partners, not solely Bhumjaithai. This could potentially provide a smoother transition and maintain coalition stability. As the deadline approaches, all eyes are on Bhumjaithai’s response, which will shape the immediate political landscape. Electric Vehicles in Thailand
Time for a new company car and HQ are pushing us towards full electric, although they will accept a Hybrid for the next couple of years. My choices are the BYD Sealion 7 AWD, Deepal S07 or the CRV E:HEV. Currently driving the CRV AWD, I like it, a bit vanilla for some but its comfortable for the family, nice to drive and service from Honda has been great. Looking at the Hybrid version, looks nice (apart from limited colour choice) but the battery part only has a range of 50 odd km which i find a bit pointless. So is it time to go full electric? have read most of this thread and it reads pretty much how you would expect with each devotee defending their corner, however i am pretty ambivalent in regards to the ICE-v-BEV debate and just looking for personal opinions from owners on the 3 cars mentioned above. I don't really have range concerns as longer journeys just require a bit more planning but i would like an idea of how much it costs for a 300Km trip for example (estimate is fine) and how simple it is to charge up at the service stations for example. Thank in advance. -

In a deeply symbolic moment, Myanmar’s Catholic community has expressed gratitude and cautious hope following Pope Leo XIV’s public call for “inclusive dialogue” to end the civil war engulfing their country. His remarks, delivered during the Angelus on June 15, mark a rare high-profile appeal for peace in Myanmar’s ongoing conflict. Father Peter Sein Hlaing Oo, Vicar General of the Mandalay Archdiocese, highlighted that the Sagaing region—one of the areas worst-hit by junta airstrikes and clashes—has seen countless villages destroyed and parishes struggling to function. “There are believers caught in the crossfire,” he said. “People are helpless and defenseless.” Despite facing bombardments and displacement, diocesan priests and lay catechists continue to serve in dangerous areas, especially in Mandalay, Chin, and Kachin states. In heavily Buddhist Sagaing city, a small Catholic community of around 50 families endures amidst some of the country’s fiercest fighting. Joseph Kung, a Catholic university teacher in Yangon, emphasized the symbolic power of the pope’s words: “When the pope mentions Myanmar, it gives us hope.” Kung condemned attacks on civilian infrastructure, recalling the April airstrike that killed 20 pupils and two teachers in Oe Htein Kwin, Sagaing. The diocese of Myitkyina in Kachin has seen widespread displacement. Its secretary, Father Don Bosco Nlam Hkun Seng, urged humanitarian organizations to increase support: “People are exhausted... Humanitarian efforts are not enough.” Christians make up just 5% of Myanmar’s 54 million people. That acceptance should also include that it is not only acceptable but is also a right to display one's country's flag. Very few people seem to object about people marching around carrying other countries' or movements' flags! Anybody that is offended by our national flag should feel quite free to leave the UK! -

Putin has just shown Zelensky that he can obliterate Ukraine, but he's been holding back because that's not his goal. He already has what he set out to do. It's time for the dying to stop and the rebuilding to begin. Long past time. If Zelensky keeps sniping around the edges, he'll force Putin to take more of Ukraine.
