Sex Pistols join Led Zeppelin on comeback trail

By Matthew Moore

Last Updated: 2:29pm BST 18/09/2007

The Sex Pistols have joined the growing list of 1970s bands hitting the comeback trail, after announcing a one-off gig in London later this year.

Sex Pistol: John Lydon

The four surviving members of the band will take to the stage at the Brixton Academy on Nov 8 to mark the 30th anniversary of their album Never Mind The <deleted>.

Their announcement follows the ticket scramble sparked by last week's news that Led Zeppelin are to play a charity gig at London's O2 arena, also in November.

The Sex Pistols - the most celebrated and notorious British punk band - split in 1978 shortly before the death of bassist Sid Vicious.

They last reformed at a poorly-received show in Crystal Palace in south London in 2002.

Frontman John Lydon - formerly known as Johnny Rotten - told music website NME.com that "all of Britain" was welcome to attend the Brixton show, which coincides with the re-release of their first album.

"Maybe it's because we're all Londoners, but there would be no Sex Pistols without dear old London town," he said.

"From London Bridge to the Rose and Crown, all of Britain is welcome so come on down."

Tickets cost £37.50 and go on sale at 9am on Friday.

Never Mind The <deleted> is consistently voted one of the most influential and groundbreaking albums in popular music history.

It featured the singles God Save The Queen, Anarchy In The UK, Holidays in the Sun and Pretty Vacant, all of which are also being re-released.

Ladbrokes, the bookmaker, is offering odds of 2/1 for God Save The Queen to reach No 1 in the charts. Never Mind the <deleted> is 3/1 to top the album charts.

Lydon has lost much of his anarchist credibility in recent years, appearing on ITV show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!.

I wore the grooves out on my Pistols albums back in the 70's and still like that stuff.

But to think the ultimate anarchist, who lost any respect I had for him, when he made a "video" for PIL, is now hitting the "comeback trail" is laughable. I'm sure Sid is spinning even faster now.... :o

Old men singing punk songs is sad and mocks their former glory.

My favorite band is The Pixies but I also felt embarassed by their reunion.

The Rolling Stones were able to continue for a long time because they brought something new to the table.

What did they bring after Black and Blue (1976) ?

To think they once sang,"You boring old faggot, you're just a pile of ":{}><", and now they're doing this.

Punk was relevant and exciting in it's time but did not lend itself well to over 25s. How old are thwese guys now.

There ain't no rock and roll no more, just the sickly sound of grred.

The sex pistols have always been commercial and not real punk. They had a couple of great songs but to reform is pathetic. Reminds me of The Velvet Underground singing 'heroin' on their comeback tour when they're drinking mineral water keeping fit.

The greatest Rock n Roll Swindle comes to mind.

I am just waiting for Johnny Rotten to say "<deleted>@k" on national TV and still think he is being provocative and outrageous. The man is a joke.

No, sorry. Jokes are supposed to be funny. He is not even that. SAVE YOUR MONEY people!!!!
