I tried lately a new icecream brand in Bkk, Penguin Ice. They're all natural, no artificial flavors. And they got crazy flavors for ice creams and fresh fruit sorbets. Something to try really, different from italian homemade.

I like the ice cream sold by the Oriental Hotel shops (ie Emporium 5th floor, Siam Paragon gf, Issetan at Central World 3rd? fl,etc). I think the Oriental makes it themselves and they also make fresh baked cones.

It is priced quite reasonably at 55B for a scoop in a cup or 65B for a single in a cone. Rum and Raisin is one of my favorites.

To answer your question Mr Tuts, yes I have. Coconut for Mr Man, Choc and choc chip for girlys and gin and tonic for me. Whatever you do don't ask for any recipes as our shipping still hasn't arrived in our new place of abode :o .

PS The G+T one was more sorbet than ice cream :D

what I was wonderin' was whether the crank/electric rotating ice cream makers were available in Thailand? I had some durian ice cream at a road house type restaurant in Indonesia that was memorable and it looked to be home made...always thought about doing the same sumtime... :o

We didn't have a machine, just tupperware boxes and a freezer. There was a craze for ice cream machines about 15 years ago in England (round the same time that everyone had a rumtopf) my friend had one and made all sorts. They do give you freedom to try all manner of what have you. She made some weird and wonderful concoctions.
