Where's The Market Where The Train Runs Through It?

Featured Replies

Friend of mine just sent me a link to a Bangkok market where a trains run right through it. Whats the name of it and where would this market be located?

Link

Thanks

can be by the wong wian yai station on thonburi - trains going to samut sakhon by the gulf of thailand, some 30 km

It is not the station at Wong Wian Yai, it is the terminal station at the other end of the line, whose name eludes me at the moment.

MaeKlong is just the informal Thai name for S. Sakorn. and in fact this tiny railline, running about hourly and connecting it both, has markets at BOTH ends, though that at the outer=Mklong=SSakorn end is more ''spectacular'', as they really have to put the stalls aside for the train to pass. Its covered and very dense and busy.

WWYai is to be reached by bus 4 from rama IV/Main Station, the 165/166 (ASK) from along Silom and many more, it also used to have a direct free shuttlebus to the outer end of the skytrain, but thats history. If the extension of skytrain opens, there will be a new stop close by.

PS: come back by bus and stop at the ''newtown'' in between Mahachai Muang mai, a weird style of buildings like Disneyland and also a giant market, as befits any Thai provincial town.

I live in Maeglong which is a town in Samut Songkram. Yes the train does pass throught the market and the stall holders have to move when a train is due.

It is a wonderful and very interesting small Thai town whcih suffers every weekend from the cars from Bangkok bringing tourists to view our wonderful country life. Many home stay developements around here since Princes Prathaep patronised the area, especially Rama 2 museum, the floating market in Amphur-Wha and of course the profusion of fire flies here.

Come have a look at Wat Peseamut- the Bangkok people do every weekend.

It is very nice here and the people are soo friendly!

One further advantage--we are only 63 kilomatres down rama 2 road from BKK.
