Bad news for Harris, unemployment rises
So true. Here's my Dad's example. He retired in 1972 and started to expand his, at the time, fairly modest stock portfolio. His goal, as he told us 6 kids, was to leave each of us $100,000 when he and my Mom passed on. The stocks were mostly household names and blue chips. JNJ, WMT, BAC, AXP, WM, MO, PM, HSY, DEO, GE, PFE, LLY, DIS, BP, LOW, BA, PG, XOM, etc. Not much tech, except MSFT, INTL, IBM, CSCO, and a few others. When Dad died in 2009, his stock portfolio of about 45 stocks was worth $600, 000, so he had reached his goal. Mom was still alive, however, so from 2009 to 2019, we kept his stock portfolio intact and the dividends paid for her nursing care, along with the money from selling their house. Dad had done the buying, we did the 'hold' of 'buy and hold'. In April 2011, the portfolio value had risen to $746,000. Microsoft was selling for about $26 a share then, Lilly for around $36. In December 2019, when my Mom passed away, the portfolio value was worth about 1.8 million dollars. Soon after, covid hit and the portfolio value plummeted. The estate was going through a very lengthy probate, however, which turned out to be a good thing. By the time the portfolio was ready to be distributed to us kids, it had mostly recovered and the six of us each received about $300,000 in stocks. So, doing absolutely nothing but holding, the portfolio went, through market ups and downs, from $600,000 in 2009 to $1.8 million in December 2019. Had the portfolio remained intact, the present value would be $2,266,000, not counting dividends, stock splits, and company spin-offs. By the way, those two stocks from 2011? MSFT today, $408 a share. LLY, $804 a share. -

UK Government to Convene Emergency Cobra Meeting After Surge of Far-Right Violence
Incorrect. Anything below £200 is dealt with by the magistrates court - it is not sent to the CPS. Punishment is from a fine to up to six months' imprisonment. Anything above £200 goes to the CPS and has a maximum jail time of 7 years. The boneheaded moron in the picture was hardly "shoplifting" though, was he. He was looting, there is a big difference. -

Why is Thailand not full of so called Asylum Seekers?
Because Thai Immigration would kick their collective butts out of the country faster than you can say, Som-Tum. Highly nationalistic, overtly racist country allowing in asylum seekers and economic refugees? Dark-skinned "Kerk" from Africa and Central Asia? Ain't happening - ever. Hell, they can't stand farangs. Pour another drink bob to get your head on straight. -

Realistically speaking, do you think Trump will last till November?
The left chose it for us. The right used to be blue, but we got switched to red once the left took over all of network television. -

Have you ever done a 'runner' and not paid a bill?
I was having a few beers in the Cafe De Paris in Monaco on the Friday before the GP. The waiter was a rather surly frenchman, and the beers were exorbitantly priced. When I asked for the bill he got the number I'd had wrong and I didn't feel inclined to correct him since for once the mistake was in my favour. One free beer. Big deal. But it felt good. -

Polyphenols in my tea; And also other Tea Anomalies. YOU, too?
OK. The reason, normally, is this: a. First infusion of the tea leaves...just drink it. b. Then, of course, you have a mug with tea leaves and no water. c. So just fill up the mug with ice water, and pop in the fridge. d. By morning, you have a mug of great tasting ice tea. But, this morning, the tea became exceedingly cloudy. This has never happened before. Important Note: I would like to mention that, for making iced tea, the best was is to do this. a. Add tea leaves to mug. b. Pour in 80-degree C water. c. Pour out the water into second mug. d. Drink the resultant mug of tea. e. Then, add cold water to the first mug which contains the tea leaves from the first infusion. f. Put the mug in the fridge for about 12 hours, and drink the next morning after the 12 hours have elapsed. g. The flavor of the iced tea is better than if you had made it using hot water. Don't ask me why. Also, always use either Green Tea or use something like DongDing WuLong tea. Very nice. Trust me! -

Cheap houses in Japan
Thinking about buying a house in Japan? It is not really difficult. Unlike many other nations, Japan does not require foreigners to have any permanent residency/citizenship. In today's Japan, millions of Unwanted Houses are in the market. They can be extremely Cheap. Or completely Free; for Give Away to someone Who Wants Them. But they come with some costs. Like many other nations, the local government charges Property Tax(based upon the market value of the house). The followings are just a few of the examples for those interested. -

Realistically speaking, do you think Trump will last till November?
I'd say I am centrist in Australian politics. In American politics, I am a lefty pinko Commie. I do find it strange conservatives in America rail about Reds under their beds, while choosing the same color to represent their party.
