Firstly - my apologies for messing everyone around with previous questions re: Penang - it seems that is not a viable option for us after all and we do in fact have to go to Singapore.

The trip has to be made this coming week - so I have a couple of questions, the usual suspects really - cheap flights and cheap accomodation - also the embassy there tells us that it will take two days to process our visas - does anyone know if that's a dependable forecast or a lazy guess ? - I would hate to get caught short and make plans around that time frame if they suddenly decide to take longer than they've estimated - then again I would prefer not to have us all hanging around there for longer than we need to - judging by what I've seen of the hotel rates.

Many thanks in advance - (again) -

Tiger Airways fly direct from Chiang Mai to Singapore - I've never used them so I am not making a recommendation! Think otherwise you'd have to change at Swampydoom

Budget hotels can be found around Singapore, but rates are still quite high compared to Thailand. Well known local chains include Hotel 81 and Fragrance Hotels. You can find little independant places and backpackers hostel type accomodation in areas like Chinatown or Geylang.

Take the passport into the embassy in the morning - go early, it can be busy. It should be ready for collection after 2 pm the next day ... so realistically I think you should plan on 2 nights in Sing'
